Effect of increased axial field of view of on the performance of a volume PET scanner

Description: The performance of the PENN-PET 240H scanner from UGM Medical Systems is tested and compared to the prototype PENN-PET scanner built at the University of Pennsylvania. The UGM PENN-PET scanner consists of six continuous position-sensitive NaI(Tl) detectors, which results in a 50-cm transverse field-of-view and a 12.8-cm axial field-of-view. The fine spatial sampling in the axial direction allows the data to be sorted into as many as 64 transverse planes, each 2-mm thick. A large axial acceptanc… more

Observation of Strong Resonant Behavior in the Inverse Photoelectron Spectroscopy of Ce Oxide

Description: X-ray Emission Spectroscopy (XES) and Resonant Inverse Photoelectron Spectroscopy (RIPES) have been used to investigate the photon emission associated with the Ce3d5/2 and Ce3d3/2 thresholds. Strong resonant behavior has been observed in the RIPES of Ce Oxide near the 5/2 and 3/2 edges. Inverse Photoelectron Spectroscopy (IPES) and its high energy variant, Bremstrahlung Isochromat Spectroscopy (BIS), are powerful techniques that permit a direct interrogation of the low-lying unoccupied electron… more

First results on neutrinoless double beta decay of Te-130 with the calorimetric cuoricino experiment

Description: The first results are reported on the limit for neutrinoless double decay of {sup 130}Te obtained with the new bolometric experiment CUORICINO. The set-up consists of 44 cubic crystals of natural TeO{sub 2}, 5 cm on the side and 18 crystals of 3 x 3 x 6 cm{sup 3}. Four of these latter crystals are made with isotopically enriched materials: two in {sup 128}Te and two others in {sup 130}Te . With a sensitive mass of {approx}40 kg, our array is by far the most massive running cryogenic detector to… more

The BaBar Gas Bubbler Upgrade and Evaluation

Description: The Instrumented Flux Return region (muon and K{sub L} detection barrel) of the BaBar detector at SLAC requires careful monitoring of the gas flow through the detector array. This is currently done by a system of digital gas bubblers which monitor the flow rate by using photogate technology to detect the presence of bubbles formed by gas flowing through an internal oil chamber. Recently, however, a design flaw was discovered in these bubblers. Because the bubblers are connected directly to the … more
