Description: Extremely smooth, uniform metal coatings of micrometer thicknesses on microscopic glass spheres (microspheres) are often needed as targets for inertial confinement fusion (ICF) experiments. Interferometric measurements of multilayer and double shell inertial fusion targets

Use of molecular beams to support microspheres during plasma coating

Development of highly polished, grazing incidence mirrors for synchrotron radiation beam lines at SSRL

Description: New platinum-coated grazing incidence mirrors with low surface roughnesses have been developed to focus bending magnet radiation from the SSRL/SLAC SPEAR storage ring on the entrance slits of two Beam Line VIII grating monochromators. Influence of design and coatings on the mechanical reliability of semiconductor wafers.

Description: We investigate some of the mechanical design factors of wafers and the effect on strength. Thin, solid, pre-stressed films are proposed as a means to improve the bulk mechanical properties of a wafer. Three-point bending was used to evaluate the laser scribe density and chemical processing effect on wafer strength. Corrosion-resistance characteristics of sputtered titanium-Hastelloy C glassy alloy coatings

Description: The corrosion-resistance characteristics of sputtered titanium (Ti)-Hastelloy C glassy alloy coatings were studied in 1 N HCl solution by potentiodynamic polarization methods. Anodic Behavior of SAM2X5 Material Applied as Amorphous Coatings

Description: Iron-based amorphous alloys are desirable industrial materials since they are highly resistant to corrosion and possess enhanced hardness for wear resistance. The amorphous materials can be produced from the melt as powder and later spray deposited as coatings on large engineering structures. Final Project Report G-Plus Windshield Coatings

Description: Samples of Sungate windshield material provided by PPG were analyzed to ascertain failure mechanisms observed at the interface between a copper busbar and the electrically conductive coating in use. Description: We present the first comprehensive investigation on water-soluble nanoparticles embedded into a paramagnetic shell and their properties as an MRI contrast agent. Construction tolerances for low loss, dielectric coated, metallic waveguide for transmission optical radiation

Description: The transmission of radiation, in a specific mode of interest for the IFELA, past a symmetric step in dielectric coating thickness has been calculated. The result shows that the transmission loss depends on the quantity (s/D)/sup 2/ and vanishes to first order in the ratio of the step s to the guide aperture D.
