Study of incomplete fusion for light heavy-ion systems using velocity distributions

Description: Experimental results on incomplete fusion for light systems are discussed by studying the velocity distribution of fusion-like residues in the energy range of 6 to 20 MeV/nucleon. Original experimental work and results from other groups including the Hahn-Meitner Institute and the Argonne National Laboratory are also cited. Reactions between /sup 14/N, /sup 16/O, /sup 19/F, and /sup 20,22/Ne projectiles and /sup 24,26/Mg, /sup 27/Al, /sup 28/Si, /sup 40/Ca and /sup 58,60/Ni targets have been st… more

Systematics of complex fragment emission from La induced reactions at E/A = 47 MeV

Description: Complex fragment (Z > 2) emission was studied in the reverse kinematics reactions of /sup 139/La on /sup 27/Al and /sup nat./Cu at a bombarding energy of E/A = 47 MeV. Experimental results from inclusive and coincidence measurements for two- and three-fold complex fragments events are presented. Measured cross sections and Z/sub 1/-Z/sub 2/ correlations show a predominately binary-decay process for the La + Al reaction, while the La + Cu reaction is dominated by multi-body decay. 18 refs., 9 fi… more

Onset of incomplete momentum transfer in fusion-like processes

Description: Velocity spectra of evaporation residues from the reactions /sup 16/O + Al, Ca, and Ni have been measured at bombarding energies of 8.8, 13.6, and 19.6 MeV/u. Comparison with statistical model predictions shows clear evidence for the onset of incomplete momentum transfer at about 5 MeV/u above the interaction barrier. To first order, the results are similar for all targets, suggesting that the missing momentum is mainly associated with the projectile. The fraction of transferred linear momentum… more

Differential neutron production cross sections and neutron yields from stopping-length targets for 113-MeV protons

Description: We have measured differential (P,xin) cross sections, d/sup 2/sigma/d..cap omega..dE/sub n/, from thin targets and absolute neutron yields from stopping-length targets at angles of 7.5/degree/, 30/degree/, 60/degree/, and 150/degree/, for the 113--MeV proton bombardment of elemental beryllium, carbon, aluminum, iron, and depleted uranium. Additional cross-section measurements are reported for oxygen, tungsten, and lead. We used time-of-flight techniques to identify and discriminate against back… more

Studies of relativistic heavy ion collisions at the AGS (E814/E877). Annual progress report, 1 May 1992--30 April 1993

Description: Efforts have continued in the area of peripheral and central collisions of relativistic heavy ions. In the area of peripheral collisions, the analysis of the 1n and 2p decay channels has been completed. In the area of central collisions, the first measurement of the E{sub T} distributions in Au + Au collisions, through the use of the participant calorimeter, was completed, and the results were compared with those obtained in collisions with Si projectiles. In addition, a thorough study of two-p… more

Particle production at AGS energies

Description: The authors discuss particle production from 14.6 A{center_dot}GeV/c Si and 11.6 A{center_dot}GeV/c Au projectiles on Al and Au targets. The second-level trigger utilized by E859 allows high precision measurements of K{sup {minus}}, {bar p}, {Lambda} and {bar {Lambda}}. The {bar {Lambda}} yield is larger than expected, and a surprisingly large fraction of the {bar p}`s are observed to arise from the decay of {bar {Lambda}}.

Assessment of some optical model potentials in predicting neutron cross sections

Description: Optical model potential parameters play an important role in the evaluation of nuclear data for applied purposes. The IAEA Coordinated Research Program on {open_quotes}Reference Input Parameter Library for Evaluation of Nuclear Data for Application in Nuclear Technology{close_quotes} aims to release a reference input file of various types of parameters for the evaluation of nuclear cross sections using nuclear model codes. Included in the parameter files are a collection of optical model potent… more
