A Preliminary Appraisal of Sediment Sources and Transport in Kings Bay and Vicinity, Georgia and Florida

Description: From introduction: This report reviews descriptive background information of the Kings Bay area and presents data on currents, salinity, temperature, turbidity, suspended sediment, phytoplankton, and on the chemical and physical characteristics of bottom sediments. Water, salt, and suspended-sediment discharges are computed for consecutive ebbtides and floodtides that occurred during the November investigation.

Modeled tephra ages from lake sediments, base of Redoubt Volcano, Alaska

Description: A 5.6-m-long lake sediment core from Bear Lake, Alaska, located 22 km southeast of Redoubt Volcano, contains 67 tephra layers deposited over the last 8750 cal yr, comprising 15% of the total thickness of recovered sediment. Using 12 AMS {sup 14}C ages, along with the {sup 137}Cs and {sup 210}Pb activities of recent sediment, we evaluated different models to determine the age-depth relation of sediment, and to determine the age of each tephra deposit. Sediment studies at Bikini Atoll part 1. distribution of fine and coarse components in surface sediments

Description: In 1979, 21 years after the moratorium on nuclear testing in the Marshall Islands, surface sediment samples (to depths of 2 and 4 cm) were collected from 87 locations over the floor of Bikini lagoon. Suspended sediment transport in the benthic nepheloid layer in southeastern Lake Michigan

Description: Time series observations of water temperature, water transparency, and current velocity were made at four stations located on the lake slope of southeastern Lake Michigan. The observations show that during stratified conditions the benthic nepheloid layer is probably not maintained by the local resuspension of bottom sediment. Crustal Structure of Iraq from Receiver Functions and Surface Wave Dispersion

Description: We report the crustal structure of Iraq, located in the northeastern Arabian plate, estimated by joint inversion of P-wave receiver functions and surface wave group velocity dispersion.
