Description: Linearly and circularly polarized x-rays have been very successfully applied to the study of the properties of materials. Many applications can benefit from the availability of energy-turnable, high-brilliance x-ray beams with adjustable polarization properties. Measurement of a Weak Polarization Sensitivity to the Beam Orbit of the CEBAF Accelerator

Description: An accelerator-based experiment was performed using the CEBAF accelerator of the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility to investigate a predicted sensitivity of the beam polarization to the vertical betatron orbit in the recirculation arcs. Crossing a Coupling Spin Resonance With an RF Dipole

Description: In accelerators, due to quadrupole roll errors and solenoid fields, the polarized proton acceleration often encounters coupling spin resonances. In the Brookhaven AGS, the coupling effect comes from the solenoid partial snake which is used to overcome imperfection resonances. Grazing incidence neutron diffraction from large scale 2D structures

Description: The distorted wave Born approximation (DWBA) is applied to evaluate the diffraction pattern of neutrons (or X-rays) from a 2D array of dots deposited onto a dissimilar substrate. Commissioning and Future Plans for Polarized Protons in Rhic.

Polarized Proton Acceleration in AGS and RHIC

A compton backscattering polarimeter for measuring longitudinal electron polarization

Magnetic Compton scattering studies of the Invar alloy Fe{sub 3}Pt

Description: The magnetic Compton profiles (MCP) for both ordered and disordered Fe{sub 3}Pt samples have been measured above and below their Curie temperature. Nucleon Magnetic Form Factors

Description: A review of data on the nucleon electromagnetic form factors in the space-like region is presented. Recent results from experiments using polarized beams and polarized targets or nucleon recoil polarimeters have yielded a significant improvement on the precision of the data obtained with the traditional Rosenbluth separation. Future plans for extended measurements are outlined.

The SLAC polarized electron source

Description: The SLAC polarized electron source employs a photocathode DC high voltage gun with a loadlock and a YAG pumped Ti:sapphire laser system for colliding beam experiments or a flash lamp pumped Ti:sapphire laser for fixed target experiments. Spin tracking study of the AGS

Description: In the recent polarized proton runs in the AGS, a 5% partial snake was used successfully to overcome the imperfection depolarizing resonances. Although some depolarization at intrinsic resonances are expected, the level of the depolarization does not agree with a simple model calculation. Effect of SiO{sub 2} overcoat thickness on laser damage morphology of HfO{sub 2}/SiO{sub 2} Brewster`s angle polarizers at 1064 nm

Description: HfO{sub 2}/SiO{sub 2} Brewster`s angle polarizers are being developed at LLNL for the National Ignition Facility. Damage threshold studies using a 3-ns pulse length 1064-nm laser have revealed a number of different damage morphologies such as nodular ejection pits, plasma scalds, flat bottom pits, and overcoat delaminations. Polarized neutrons in RHIC

Description: There does not appear to be any obvious way to accelerate neutrons, polarized or otherwise, to high energies by themselves. To investigate the behavior of polarized neutrons the authors therefore have to obtain them by accelerating them as components of heavier nuclei, and then sorting out the contribution of the neutrons in the analysis of the reactions produced by the heavy ion beams. Soft x-ray spectroscopy undulator beamline at the Advanced Photon Source

Description: Construction of the high-resolution soft x ray spectroscopy undulator beamline, 2ID-C, at the Advanced Photon Source (APS) has been completed. The beamline, one of two soft x ray beamlines at the APS, will cover the photon energy range from 500 to 3,000 eV, with a maximum resolving power between 7,000 and 14,000. An improved limit on jet handedness in Z{sup 0} decays

Description: We present the results of an improved search for jet handedness in hadronic decays of Z{sup degree} bosons collected by the SLD experiment at SLAC. Quark and antiquark jets, expected to be oppositely polarized in Z{sup degree} decays, were separated using the large forward-backward quark asymmetry induced by the highly polarized SLC electron beam. Ionization of polarized 3He+ ions in EBIS trap with slanted electrostatic mirror.

Description: Methods of producing the nuclear polarized {sup 3}He{sup +} ions and their ionization to {sup 3}H{sup ++} in ion trap of the electron Beam Ion Source (EBIS) are discussed. Computer simulations show that injection and accumulation of {sup 3}He{sup +} ions in the EBIS trap with slanted electrostatic mirror can be very effective for injection times longer than the ion traversal time through the trap.
