Preliminary results on the decays D{sup +} {yields} K{sup +} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}}, D{sup +} {yields} K{sup +}K{sup +}K{sup +}

Description: Preliminary results on the Doubly Cabibbo Suppressed Decays (DCSD) D{sup +} {yields} K{sup +}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}} and D{sup +} {yields} K{sup +}K{sup +}K{sup {minus}} from roughly 40% of the E791 data set are summarized. The authors present an analysis of candidate events from E791 data in these decay modes. They show that there is a clear signal in the D{sup +} {yields} K{sup +}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}} mode and discuss backgrounds and sources of error in the results. They disagree … more

Elastic charge form factors for K mesons

Description: The elastic charge form factors for the charged K{sup +} and neutral K{sup 0} are presented. The model employed makes use of solutions of the coupled Bethe-Salpeter and Schwinger-Dyson equations. This covariant model, which provides good predictions for the pion`s elastic charge and transition form factor, has been presented elsewhere and will be briefly outlined here. The results for the kaon are in good agreement with the available data and can serve as an eventual guide in the interpretation… more

Description: E777 has set 90% C.L. branching ratio upper limits of 2.1 x 10{sup {minus}10} for the decays K{sup +} {yields} {pi}{sup +}{mu}{sup +}e{sup {minus}} and 4.5 x 10{sup {minus}7} for K{sup +} {yields} {pi}{sup +}A{sup 0}, where A{sup 0} is any particle of mass less than 100 MeV/c{sup 2} decaying into e{sup +}e{sup {minus}} with lifetime less than 10{sup {minus}13} sec. E851 measured the BR(K{sup +} {yields} {pi}{sup +}e{sup +}e{sup {minus}}) = (2.97{sub {minus}0.22}{sup +0.19}) x 10{sup {minus}7} a… more

E787: a search for the rare decay K{sup +}

Description: Recent results from the first phase of the E787 experiment and an update on the current status are presented. From the first phase the limit on the K{sup +} {r_arrow} {pi}{sup +}{nu}{ovr {nu}} branching ratio is BR( K{sup +} {r_arrow} {pi}{sup +}{nu}{ovr {nu}}) < 2.4 x 10{sup -9}. An observation of the decay K{sup +} {r_arrow} {pi}{sup +}{mu}{sup +}{mu}{sup -} has been made using two separate techniques. An observation of the decay K{sup +} {r_arrow} {pi}{sup +}{gamma}{gamma} has been made and … more

Evidence of K{sup +} {r_arrow} {pi}{sup +}{nu}{anti {nu}}: The BNL E787 1995 result (How did we get here)

Description: The kaon was studied very thoroughly since its discovery some 50 years ago. In the study of charged kaon branching ratios, it was noticed that K{sup +} {r_arrow} {pi}{sup 0}e{sup +}{nu}{sub e} is allowed while K{sup +} {r_arrow} {pi}{sup +}{nu}{anti {nu}} is not. The latter was then empirically classified as a forbidden decay, leading to the so called strangeness changing current rule. The decay K{sup +} {r_arrow} {pi}{sup 0}e{sup +}{nu}{sub e} is mediated by the strangeness changing charged cu… more

The production of {pi}{sup {+-}}, K{sup {+-}}, p, k{sup 0} and {Lambda}{sup 0} in hadronic Z{sup 0} decays

Description: The authors have measured production fractions and spectra for {pi}{sup {+-}}, K{sup {+-}} and p, and production spectra for K{sup 0} and {Lambda}{sup 0} in both hadronic Z{sup 0} decays and a Z{sup 0} {yields} light quark (uds) subset at SLD. The SLD Cherenkov Ring Imaging Detector was used to identify charged hadrons. The CCD vertex detector was used to select the enriched uds sample. For the global sample, the results are consistent with previous experiments. The authors observe a clear flav… more

These include rate asymmetries in the B decays to K{sup (*)}l{sup +}l{sup -} and K{sup +}{pi}{sup -} and branching fractions in the B decays to l{sup +}{nu}{sub l}, K{sub 1}(1270){sup +}{pi}{sup -} and K{sub 1}(1400){sup +}{pi}{sup -}. The author also reports a search for the B{sup +} decay to K{sub S}{sup 0}K{sub S}{sup 0}{pi}{sup +}.

Evidence for D0 - Anti-D0 Mixing at Babar

Description: We present evidence for D{sup 0}-{bar D}{sup 0} mixing in D{sup 0} {yields} K{sup +}{pi}{sup 0} decays from 384 fb{sup -1} of e{sup +}e{sup -} colliding-beam data recorded near {radical}s = 10.6GeV with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage rings at SLAC. We find the mixing parameters x{prime}{sup 2} = [-0.22{+-}0.30 (stat.){+-}0.21 (syst.)] x 10{sup -3} and y{prime} = [9.7{+-}4.4 (stat.){+-}3.1 (syst.)] x 10{sup -3}, and a correlation between them of -0.94. Overview of rare K decays

Description: The status and future prospects of searches for and studies of forbidden and highly suppressed K decays are reviewed. Here the author discusses three areas of recent activity in rare K decay. These are lepton-flavor violating decays, which are entirely forbidden in the Standard Model, K{sub S} {yields} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}}{pi}{sup 0}, which is of interest from the point of view of CP-violation, and `one loop` decays of the form K{sup 0,{+-}} {yields} ({pi}{sup 0,{+-}})l{bar l}, that can… more

HyperCP at Fermilab -- A status report

Description: The primary purpose of the HyperCP experiment at Fermilab is to test CP in hyperon decays by comparing the alpha parameters for {Xi}{sup -} and {Xi}{sup +} decays in the decay sequence: {Xi}{sup -} {yields} {pi} + {Lambda}{sup 0}, {Lambda}{sup 0} {yields} {pi}{sup -} + p. In addition, we can test CP in charged kaon decays by comparing the slopes of the Dalitz plot for K{sup +} and K{sup -} decays. They are also looking at rare decay modes of charged kaons and hyperons, particularly those involv… more
