Resonant-like structures in proton--proton system. [Spin states, polarization]

Description: A striking energy dependence was observed in the difference between the p--p total cross sections for parallel and antiparallel longitudinal spin states, ..delta.. sigma/sub L/. The structure appears around p/sub lab/ = 1.5 GeV/c, where ..delta.. sigma/sub L/ = -16.7 mb and is seen in sigma/sup Tot/(arrow-right arrow-right) rather than sigma/sup Tot/(arrow-right arrow-left). The experiments were performed at ANL using a standard transmission technique. From the dispersion analysis of a forward … more

Direct-Steam Linear Fresnel Performance Model for NREL's System Advisor Model

Description: This paper presents the technical formulation and demonstrated model performance results of a new direct-steam-generation (DSG) model in NREL's System Advisor Model (SAM). The model predicts the annual electricity production of a wide range of system configurations within the DSG Linear Fresnel technology by modeling hourly performance of the plant in detail. The quasi-steady-state formulation allows users to investigate energy and mass flows, operating temperatures, and pressure drops for geom… more

Boundary integral methods for unsaturated flow

Description: Many large simulations may be required to assess the performance of Yucca Mountain as a possible site for the nations first high level nuclear waste repository. A boundary integral equation method (BIEM) is described for numerical analysis of quasilinear steady unsaturated flow in homogeneous material. The applicability of the exponential model for the dependence of hydraulic conductivity on pressure head is discussed briefly. This constitutive assumption is at the heart of the quasilinear tran… more

Structures revealed in p-p and p-n scattering experiments and dibaryon resonances

Description: A striking energy dependence has been observed in the difference between the p-p total cross sections for parallel and antiparallel longitudinal spin states, ..delta..sigma/sub L/ = sigma/sup Tot/(reversible) - sigma/sup Tot/(reversible). The structure lab/appears around p/sub lab/ = 1.5 GeV/c where ..delta..sigma/sub L/ = -16.7 mb and is seen in sigma/sup Tot/(reversible) rather than sigma/sup Tot/(reversible). The experiments were performed at Argonne National Laboratory using a standard tran… more

Modified polynomial function model for reversed field pinches

Description: A generalized analytic representation for the magnetic field and current density profiles in a reversed field pinch is proposed. These profiles have zero current density at the wall and finite plasma pressure. The profiles are characterized by two free parameters here taken to be the field reversal parameter (F) and pinch parameter ({Theta}). From the profiles, many useful quantities such as magnetic energy, beta, inductane, resistance and ohmic input power are calculated. These quantities prov… more

Consistent multiparameter quantisation of GL(n)

Description: We describe a manifold of quantum group structures on the vector space of the universal enveloping algebra of gl(n) and on its dual, the space of polynomials in n{sup 2} variables. The dimension of the manifolds is (n{sup 2} {minus} n + 2)/2. 7 refs.

Two-part-liquid-mixture percentage measurement using a flow-through capacitance sensor

Description: A flow-through capacitance sensor with application-specific electronics that includes auto-calibration and fail-safe circuitry has been built and tested to measure the percentage of tributyl phosphate (TBP) in n-dodecane. The system has been tested with the flow-through sensor at 100 foot distance from the electronics and shows no sensitivity to cable movement. The calibration data fits a second degree polynomial well. 6 figs., 1 tab.

Study of structure of nuclei with neutrons and nuclear data measurements for MFE. Progress report, September 1, 1978-August 31, 1979. [Summaries of research activities at Ohio University]

Description: Measurements of neutron inelastic scattering cross sections for /sup 7/Li(n,n')/sup 7/Li* (0.478 MeV) made at this Laboratory together with our earlier elastic scattering results have been analyzed in terms of our new multilevel-multichannel R-Matrix calculation. The investigation has led to the assignment of many more levels in /sup 8/Li than were previously known with confidence. These results are in good agreement with recent theoretical model calculations, so that together the two provide c… more
