Bibliography on Atomic Transition Probabilities

Description: Report presenting a bibliography on atomic transition probabilities. The papers are arranged according to elements and stages of ionization, and the method employed and class of transitions are indicated behind each reference. Only articles on discrete transitions, both permitted and forbidden, are listed. Also included is a supplementary list of papers dealing with transition probabilities from a general point of view, a table showing the availability of numerical material on the individual at… more

Refractive Indices and Densities of Aqueous Solutions of Invert Sugar

Description: Report of the refractive indices and densities of aqueous solutions of invert sugar at temperatures of 15, 20, 25, and 30º C, for concentrations up to about 82 percent of invert sugar (by weight). From the results, equations have been derived which relate the refractive index and percent of invert sugar (weight in air) at each temperature. Other equations relate the absolute density and percent of invert sugar (weight in vacuum) at each temperature. Five-decimal tables giving the refractive ind… more

Influence of a Sector Ground Screen on the Field of a Vertical Antenna

Description: Report show the field of a short vertical antenna on a homogeneous ground is modified by the presence of a metallic screen. The screen is taken in the form of a circular disk and a concentric sector. The modification of the field is expressed in the form of surface integrals over the disk and the sector. Extensive numerical results for these basic integrals are given and a number of applications are illustrated.

Spectral unfolds of PITHON Flash X-ray source.

Description: Using a differential absorption spectrometer we obtained experimental spectral information for the PITHON Flash X-ray Machine located in San Leandro, California at L-3 Communications. Spectral information we obtained pertained to the 200 keV to 800 keV endpoint operation of PITHON. We also obtained data on the temporal behavior of high energy and low energy spectral content.

Tentative Tables for the Properties of the Upper Atmosphere

Description: Note presenting three temperature-height relationships and one composition-height relationship developed by the NACA and tables based on them for pertinent properties of the upper atmosphere. Two sets of tables based on the adopted tentative standard specifications for the upper atmosphere are presented.

[Aunt Esther at the Kitchen Table]

Description: Narrative by Junebug Clark: This photo was taken during the late 1930s in Hamtramck, Michigan. Hamtramck is a small town and Polish community surrounded by the city of Detroit. My Aunt Esther (can’t recall her maiden name at this time) is featured at the kitchen table. She would eventually marry Bill Krent and have 4 children: Jackie, David, Marsha and Claudia.

Tables for the Numerical Determination of the Fourier Transform of a Function of Time and the Inverse Fourier Transform of a Function of Frequency, With Some Applications to Operational Calculus Methods

Description: Report presenting a set of tables which aids in the numerical determination of the Fourier transform of a function of time and the inverse Fourier transform of a function of frequency. Many of the operations normally performed theoretically with the operational calculus can be performed numerically with the aid of the tables. Some applications using the tables are described.

A Method for Calculating the Lift and Center of Pressure of Wing-Body-Tail Combinations at Subsonic, Transonic, and Supersonic Speeds

Description: Report presenting a method for calculating the lift and pitching-moment characteristics of circular cylindrical bodies in combination with triangular, rectangular, or trapezoidal wings or tails through the subsonic, transonic, and supersonic speed ranges. A computing table and set of design charts are presented to reduce the calculations to routine operations. Information about lift, center of pressure, effects of wing incidence, and limitations and extensions of the method is provided.

Analytical Standards for Trace Elements in Petroleum Products

Description: Report discussing a search conducted for stable, oil-soluble, organic compounds of metals (and other elements) for use in the spectrographic analysis of petroleum products. Compounds having suitable physical properties have been selected as standards. Methods are given for preparation of the compounds and for the spectrographic and chemical analysis of the chosen standards. Procedures are described for the preparation of stable solutions thereof in petroleum oils.

Shielding Against Gamma Rays, Neutrons, and Electrons From Nuclear Weapons: A Review and Bibliography

Description: Report discussing the problem of predicting dose rates and of estimating the effectiveness of shielding from radiations resulting from nuclear explosions. A number of calculations and supporting experiments regarding the penetration and diffusion of gamma rays, neutrons, and electrons through air and bulk materials are summarized. Indications are given of gaps in such input information. A selection of 485 references from the unclassified literature is presented, of which 388 are cataloged as to… more
