Decommissioning of the Molten Salt Reactor Experiment: A technical evaluation

Description: This report completes a technical evaluation of decommissioning planning for the former Molten Salt Reactor Experiment, which was shut down in December, 1969. The key issues revolve around the treatment and disposal of some five tons of solid fuel salt which contains over 30 kg of fissionable uranium-233 plus fission products and higher actinides. Environmental surveillance at Los Alamos during 1989

Description: This report describes the environmental surveillance program conducted by Los Alamos National Laboratory during 1989. Routine monitoring for radiation and radioactive or chemical materials is conducted on the Laboratory site as well as in the surrounding region. Postremediation dose assessment for the Elza Gate site, Oak Ridge, Tennessee

Description: Potential maximum radiation dose rates were calculated for the Elza Gate site in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The RESRAD computer code, which implements the methodology described in the US Department of Energy's manual for implementing residual radioactive material guidelines, was used in this evaluation. Description: The effluent monitoring programs at ICPP for calendar year 1981 are summarized. During the year, five significant occurrences or unplanned releases occurred. These are briefly described and tabulated. In none of the instances were the applicable Radiation Concentration Guides (RCG's) exceeded.
