2-D electric fields and drifts near the magnetic separatrix in divertor tokamaks

Description: A 2-D calculation is presented for the transport of plasma in the edge region of a divertor tokamak solving continuity, momentum, and energy balance fluid equations. The model uses anomalous radial diffusion, including perpendicular ion momentum, and classical cross-field drifts transport. Parallel and perpendicular currents yield a self-consistent electrostatic potential on both sides of the magnetic separatrix. A 3.3 MJ, Rb{sup +1} Driver Design Based on an Integrated Systems Analysis

Description: A computer model for systems analysis of heavy ion drivers has been developed and used to evaluate driver designs for inertial fusion energy (IFE). The present work examines a driver for a close-coupled target design that requires less total beam energy but also smaller beam spots sizes than previous target designs. N >= 4 Supergravity Amplitudes from Gauge Theory at Two Loops

Description: We present the full two-loop four-graviton amplitudes in N = 4, 5, 6 supergravity. These results were obtained using the double-copy structure of gravity, which follows from the recently conjectured color-kinematics duality in gauge theory. The two-loop four-gluon scattering amplitudes in N = 0, 1, 2 supersymmetric gauge theory are a second essential ingredient. 3D Atom Probe Tomography Study on Segregation of Yttrium in Modified Aluminum-Silicon Alloys

Description: In this article, yttrium segregation behavior in Al-Si alloys has been studied using the three-dimensional atom probe tomography technique. Al-Si alloys were prepared by casting method, and yttrium was added to modify the eutectic silicon morphology in these alloys. The results indicated that yttrium is preferentially located within the Si phase, with the highest concentration at the interface between eutectic Al and eutectic Si.

Absorption spectrophotometric characterization of Sm(II), Sm(III), and Sm(II/III) bromides and Sm(III) oxybromide in the solid state

Description: Absorption spectra obtained from SmBr/sub 3/, SmBr/sub 2/, and Sm0Br were used in identifying the samarium species in several mixed-valence Sm(II/III) compounds produced by H/sub 2/ reduction of SmBr/sub 3/. The nature of the absorption of Sm0Br made it possible to detect even traces of Sm0Br in the Sm bromides.

AC Loss Measurements with a Cryocooled Sample

Description: A new cryostat cooled by a closed-cycle Cryomech GB-37 cryocooler for superconductor measurements at temperatures down to 20 K is described. The sample is conductively coupled to the cold stage so as to minimize vibration and thermal stresses. AC losses have been measured calorimetrically in several HTSC coils that have been wound to simulate sub-scale transformer winding pairs.
