Re-evaluation of Ball 3X Recovery System improvements, 105-B, D, DR, F, and H

Description: Since the installation of Ball 3X equipment on the older reactors, several inadvertent ball drops have been experienced, many of which have required considerable recovery time. Furthermore, it is very probable that these recovery times be significantly increased subsequent to the proposed installation of air accelerated vertical safety rods. Because of this, interest has been expressed by reactor operations personnel toward provision of a ball recovery system which would substantially reduce th… more

Conversion of a ``K`` Reactor to single-purpose power recovery: Feasibility study

Description: Somewhere in the future lies the possibility that the existing HAPO reactors will no longer be required for the production of weapons grade plutonium. This could come about either through advances in technology or through changes in the requirements for this particular fissionable isotope as a weapons material. In any event, should these reactors no longer be utilized for plutonium production, it would be appropriate to consider the possibility of their conversion to other uses, notably that of… more

The VLBA Imaging And Polarimetry Survey at 5 GHz

Description: We present the first results of the VLBA Imaging and Polarimetry Survey (VIPS), a 5 GHz VLBI survey of 1,127 sources with flat radio spectra. Through automated data reduction and imaging routines, we have produced publicly available I, Q, and U images and have detected polarized flux density from 37% of the sources. We have also developed an algorithm to use each source's I image to automatically classify it as a point-like source, a core-jet, a compact symmetric object (CSO) candidate, or a co… more

A combined analysis of SLAC experiments on deep inelastic e-p and e-d scattering

Description: We report recent work on the extraction of R = {sigma}{sub L}/{sigma}{sub T} and the structure function F{sub 2} over a large kinematic range, which is based on a reanalysis of deep inelastic {var_epsilon} {minus} p and {var_epsilon} {minus} d scattering cross sections measured at SLAC between 1970 and 1985. All these data were corrected for radiative effects using improved versions of external and internal radiative correction procedures. The data from seven individual experiments were normali… more
