Measurement of correlated b-bbar production in p-pbar collisions at s**(1/2) = 1960 GeV

Description: We present a measurement of the correlated b{bar b} production cross section. The data used in this analysis were taken with the upgraded CDF detector (CDF II) at the Fermilab Tevatron collider, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 742 pb{sup -1}. We utilize muon pairs with invariant mass 5 {le} m{sub {mu}{mu}} {le} 80 GeV/c{sup 2} produced by b{bar b} double semileptonic decays. For muons with p{sub T} {ge} 3 GeV/c and |{eta}| {le} 0.7, that are produced by b and {bar b} quarks with p… more

Search for Heavy, Long-Lived Neutralinos that Decay to Photons at CDF II Using Photon Timing

Description: The authors present the results of the first hadron collider search for heavy, long-lived neutralinos that decay via {tilde {chi}}{sub 1}{sup 0} {yields} {gamma}{tilde G} in gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking models. Using an integrated luminosity of 570 {+-} 34 pb{sup -1} of p{bar p} collisions at {radical}s = 1.96 TeV, they select {gamma}+jet+missing transverse energy candidate events based on the arrival time of a high-energy photon at the electromagnetic calorimeter as measured with a ti… more

Measurement of the Single Top Quark Production Cross Section at CDF

Description: We report a measurement of the single top quark production cross section in 2.2 fb{sup -1} of p{bar p} collision data collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab at {radical}s = 1.96 TeV. Candidate events are classified as signal-like by three parallel analyses which use likelihood, matrix element, and neural network discriminants. These results are combined in order to improve the sensitivity. We observe a signal consistent with the standard model prediction, but inconsistent with the backg… more

Search for resonant t anti-t production in p anti-p collisions at s**(1/2) = 1.96-TeV

Description: We report on a search for narrow-width particles decaying to a top and antitop quark pair. The data set used in the analysis corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 680 pb{sup -1} collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab in Run II. We present 95% confidence level upper limits on the cross section times branching ratio. Assuming a specific top color-assisted technicolor production model, the leptophobic Z{prime} with width {Gamma}{sub Z{prime}} = 0.012M{sub Z{prime}}, we exclude the m… more

Global Search for New Physics with 2.0 fb88-1 at CDF

Description: Data collected in Run II of the Fermilab Tevatron are searched for indications of new electroweak-scale physics. Rather than focusing on particular new physics scenarios, CDF data are analyzed for discrepancies with the standard model prediction. A model-independent approach (VISTA) considers gross features of the data, and is sensitive to new large cross-section physics. Further sensitivity to new physics is provided by two additional algorithms: a Bump Hunter searches invariant mass distribut… more

Search for Standard Model Higgs Boson Production in Association with a W Boson at CDF

Description: We present a search for standard model Higgs boson production in association with a W boson in proton-antiproton collisions (p{bar p} {yields} W{sup {+-}}H {yields} {ell}{nu}b{bar b}) at a center of mass energy of 1.96 TeV. The search employs data collected with the CDF II detector which correspond to an integrated luminosity of approximately 1 fb{sup -1}. We select events consistent with a signature of a single lepton (e{sup {+-}}/{mu}{sup {+-}}), missing transverse energy, and two jets. Jets … more

First measurement of the production of a W boson in association with a single charm quark in p anti-p collisions at s**(1/2) = 1.96-TeV

Description: The authors present the first measurement of the production cross section of a W boson with a single charm quark (c) in p{bar p} collisions at {radical}s = 1.96 TeV, using soft muon tagging of c jets. In a data sample of {approx} 1.8 fb{sup -1}, recorded with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron, they select events with W + 1 or 2 jets. They use the charge correlation between the W and the muon from the semileptonic decay of a charm hadron to extract the We signal. They measure {sigma}{… more

Search for the Production of Narrow t anti-b Resonances in 1.9 fb-1 of p anti-p Collisions at s**(1/2) = 1.96-TeV

Description: We present new limits on resonant tb production in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV, using 1.9 fb{sup -1} of data recorded with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. We reconstruct a putative tb mass in events with a lepton, neutrino candidate, and two or three jets, and search for anomalous tb production as modeled by W{prime} {yields} tb. We set a new limit on a right-handed W{prime} with standard model-like coupling, excluding any mass below 800 GeV at 95% C.L. For any narrow W… more

Search for New Heavy Particles Decaying to Z0 Z0 ---> eeee in p - anti-p Collisions at s**(1/2) = 1.96-TeV

Description: We report the results of a search for the anomalous production of a massive particle decaying to four electrons via two Z{sup 0} bosons in 1.1 fb{sup -1} of p{bar p} collisions at {radical}s =1.96 TeV collected by the CDF II detector at Fermilab. We employ optimized electron identification criteria to maximize acceptance and efficiency. We estimate the backgrounds in the invariant mass range 500-1000 GeV/c{sup 2} to be 0.028 {+-} 0.009 (stat) {+-} 0.011 (syst) events. We observe zero events in … more

Search for Maximal Flavor Violating Scalars in Same-Charge Lepton Pairs in p anti-p Collisions at s**(1/2) = 1.96-TeV

Description: Models of Maximal Flavor Violation (MxFV) in elementary particle physics may contain at least one new scalar SU(2) doublet field {Phi}{sub FV} = ({eta}{sup 0},{eta}{sup +}) that couples the first and third generation quarks (q{sub 1}; q{sub 3}) via a Lagrangian term L{sub FV} = {zeta}{sub 13}{Phi}{sub FV}q{sub 1}q{sub 3}. Description: We present a measurement of the transverse momentum with respect to the jet axis (k{sub T}) of particles in jets produced in p{bar p} collisions at {radical}s = 1.96 TeV. Results are obtained for charged particles within a cone of opening angle 0.5 radians around the jet axis in events with dijet invariant masses between 66 and 737 GeV/c{sup 2}. The experimental data are compared to theoretical predictions obtained for fragmentation partons within the framework of resummed perturbative QCD usin… more

Search for a Higgs Boson Decaying to Two W Bosons at CDF

Description: We present a search for a Higgs boson decaying to two W bosons in p{bar p} collisions at {radical}s = 1.96 TeV center-of-mass energy. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb{sup -1} collected with the CDF II detector. We find no evidence for production of a Higgs boson with mass between 110 and 200 GeV/c{sup 2}, and determine upper limits on the production cross section.
