1/2/Sup +/. -->. 1/2/Sup -/ Beta Decay of /Sup 19/Ne and the Parity Nonconserving Nn Force

Description: A branching ratio of (1.20 +- 0.20) x 10/sup -4/ is obtained for the ..beta../sup +/ decay of /sup 19/Ne to the 110 keV 1/2/sup -/ level of /sup 19/F. This transition (presumably dominated by the ..delta..J/sup ..pi../ = 0/sup -/ axial charge operator) provides a crucial test of wavefunctions used in interpreting the parity mixing of the ground and 110 keV levels of /sup 19/F. These wavefunctions, which yield a parity mixing larger than that observed experimentally, also predict too large a ..b… more

16. 3 eV neutron capture in /sup 107/Ag: nuclear structure of /sup 108/Ag. [Transitions, J correlations,. pi. ]

Description: The ..gamma.. rays from neutron capture in the 0- resonance of /sup 107/Ag at 16.3 eV were studied. Thirteen primary transitions populate spin 1 levels in /sup 108/Ag below an energy of 1.5 MeV. Transitions from low lying levels change in intensity by as much as a factor of 2 between thermal neutron capture (largely spin 1) and the 0- resonance, indicating a strong correlation of the population with level spin. 7 references.

1983 environmental monitoring report, Sandia National Laboratories, Albuquerque, New Mexico

Description: Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) is located south of Albuquerque on Kirtland Air Force Base. Because radionuclides are potentially released from its research activities, SNL has a continuing environmental monitoring program which analyzes for cesium-137, tritium, uranium, alpha emitters, and beta emitters in water, soil, air, and vegetation. Measured radiation levels in public areas were consistent with local background in 1983. The Albuquerque population received an estimated 0.250 person-re… more

Actinide production in /sup 136/Xe bombardments of /sup 249/Cf

Description: The production cross sections for the actinide products from /sup 136/Xe bombardments of /sup 249/Cf at energies 1.02, 1.09, and 1.16 times the Coulomb barrier were determined. Fractions of the individual actinide elements were chemically separated from recoil catcher foils. The production cross sections of the actinide products were determined by measuring the radiations emitted from the nuclides within the chemical fractions. The chemical separation techniques used in this work are described … more

Aerial radiological survey of the United States Department of Energy's Battelle Nuclear Science Facility, West Jefferson, Ohio, date of survey: May 1977

Description: An aerial radiological survey to measure terrestrial gamma radiation was carried out over the United States Department of Energy's Battelle Nuclear Science Facility located in West Jefferson, Ohio. Gamma ray data were collected over a 5.5 km/sup 2/ area centered on the facility by flying east-west lines spaced 61 m apart. Processed data indicated that on-site radioactivity was primarily due to radionuclides currently being processed due to the hot lab operations. Off-site data showed the radioa… more

Airborne radioactive effluent study at the Savannah River Plant

Description: Under the Clean Air Act, Sections 112 and 122 as amended in 1977, the Office of Radiation Programs (OPR) of the United States Environmental Protection Agency is currently developing standards for radionuclides emitted to the air by several source categories. In order to confirm source-term measurements and pathway calculations for radiation exposures to humans offsite, the ORP performs field studies at selected facilities that emit radionuclides. This report describes the field study conducted … more

Analysis of factors limiting the geometric resolution of a positron imaging device

Description: Large-area, positron-sensitive detectors are used in annihilation coincidence systems for studies with positron-decay radiopharmaceuticals. Factors which limit the spatial resolution in such systems are analyzed. These factors include: (1) the intrinsic spatial resolution of the detector, (2) parallax errors, (3) range of positrons in tissue, and (4) angular deviation of the coincident photon pair from colinearity.
