14-Inch Swing Check Valve Test

Description: The check valve for the Hallam Power Reactor uses a knife-edge bearing for the flapper in place of the usual journal-type bearing. Mechanical cycling in sodium at 600 deg F was used to check operation of this bearing. A total of 309 mechanical cycles was completed with no apparent malfunctioning of the valve. Measured leskage rates were 0.46 gpm at 0.93 psig, 0.73 gpm at 3.4 psig. and 0.32 gpm at 5.9 psig. (M.C.G.)

100-C water plant

Description: System curves for each portion of the C Area Water Plant were obtained from referenced work and are presented in figures. Field test data, corroborating the calculated curves, are presented as singular points on the same graphs. Present maxima capacity of the C Area Filter Plant was 121,000 gpm with 118,000 gpm available for use as primary reactor coolant. Modifications to the filter effluent piping would increase this available flow to about 180,000 gpm. Of the 118,000 gpm available for C Reactor use, 10,000 to 12,000 gpm was demanded by B Area through the 183 BC intertie. The maximum flow that the intertie line could handle, without reducing the filter capacity of the C Area filters, is about 21,000 gpm.

100-K Area electrical power system load and voltage study for project CG-775. Revision

Description: The proposed increased water capacity for 100-K plants will increase the electrical load to be supplied. The load study showed that the capacity of the existing 13.8 kV system is adequate to carry the increased loads proposed for Project CG-775, while for the 5 kV system, an expanded power system is proposed. Likewise, the voltage regulation on the kV system bus will be excessive, and voltage regulators should be added.

1000-Mwe SGR. 90% ThO$Sub 2$, 10% UO$sub 2$ Alternate Fuel Core Thermal and Hydraulic Analysis

Description: The thermal and hydraulic core parameters were determined using the SORTD I code for 90% ThO/sub 2/, 10% UO/sub 2/ fuel both for (1) a core containing 592 fuel elements corresponding to the UC reference core with a maximum UC temperature of 2000 deg F and (2) a core containing 784 fuel elements corresponding to a UC core with a maximum UC temperature of 1750 deg F. Eighteen rod elements with 2.5 in./sup 2/ and 3.5 in./sup 2/ fuel areas, and 30 rod elements with 4.5 in./sup 2/ and 5.5 in./sup 2/ fuel areas are analyzed for 8 cases. (auth)

1B HEAT EXCHANGER LEAK TEST. CORE I, SEED 1. Test Results

Description: Descriptions are given of various procedures used in determining leaks in the tubes of the 1B heat exchanger. Air pressurization tests determined leakage and leak rate of nine tubes. The leak-location-detector-probe method was found promising for locating defects along the length of the tube. Results of the probalog, dye-penetrant, and ultrasonic tests proved inconclusive in determining leak locations. (B.O.G.)

Absolute Decay Rate from K20→π+ + π- + π0 and the barDELTA I over→bar = 1/2 Rule

Description: In this letter the author describes a measurement of the absolute decay rate {Gamma}{sub 2}({+-}0) {approx_equal} {Gamma}(K{sub 2}{sup 0} {yields} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -}{pi}{sup 0}). The result is based on 16 events of the type {pi}{sup -} p {yields} {Lambda}K{sup 0} followed by {Lambda} {yields} p{pi}{sup -} and K{sub 2}{sup 0} {yields} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -}{pi}{sup 0}, and 2608 double-vec events {pi}{sup -} p {yields} {Lambda}K{sup 0} with {Lambda} {yields} p{pi}{sup -} and K{sub 1}{sup 0} {yields} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -}.
