Fast excitation variable period wiggler

Description: The design of an easily stackable, variable period length, fast excitation driven wiggler, making use of geometrically alternating substacks of Vanadium Permandur ferromagnetic laminations, interspaced with conductive, non magnetic, laminations which act as eddy current induced field reflectors,'' is discussed and experimental results obtained with short wiggler models are presented.

Fast Excitation Wiggler Field Measurement Results

Description: As part of the program of Inverse Free Electron Laser (IFEL) Accelerator Development, the development of fast excitation, planar wigglers with high K magnitude has been pursued. This paper discusses the observed characteristics of a variable period length, tapered, wiggler as well as the procedures of measurement. The behaviour of a constant period length magnet with varying Vanadium Permendur (VaP) and field reflector thickness is also discussed.

FFTF railroad tank car safety evaluation for packaging

Description: This Safety Evaluation for Packaging (SEP) provides evaluations necessary to approve transfer of the 8,000 gallon Liquid Waste Tank Car (LWTC) from the Fast Flux Test Facility (FFTF) to the 200 Areas. This SEP will demonstrate that the transfer cif the LWTC will provide an equivalent degree of safety as would be provided by packages meeting U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements. This fulfills onsite transportation requirements implemented in the Hazardous Material Packaging and S… more

Magnetic Performance of a Fast Excitation Wiggler

Description: With the objective of performing an inverse free-electron laser accelerator experiment, an iron dominated (Vanadium Permendur), fast excitation, high K planar wiggler has been built and measured. The authors present in this report an analysis of a constant period wiggler and several tapering configurations (gap=4 mm; 3.0 cm < {lambda}{sub {omega}} < 5. cm) when they are driven to a peak field of B{sub max} {approx}1.4 T.

Magnetic performance of a fast excitation wiggler for inverse free-electron lasers

Description: With the objective of performing an inverse free-electron laser accelerator experiment, an iron dominated (Vanadium Permendur), fast excitation, high K planar wiggler has been guilt and measured. We present in this report an analysis of a constant period wiggler and several tapering configurations (gap=4 mm; 3.0 cm < {lambda}{sub {omega}} < 5.0 cm) when we drive it to a peak field of B{sub max} {approx} 1.4T.

Magnetic performance of a variable period, fast excitation, wiggler

Description: With the objective of carrying out an Inverse Free Electron Laser (IFEL) electron accelerator experiment, an iron dominated (Vanadium Permandur) fast excitation, laminated (variable period length) planar wiggler, making use of copper field reflectors, has been constructed and has been measured in several period length tapering configurations. This report presents an analysis and experimental results of this wiggler, typically of which the parameters are {gamma}(w) = 3.7 cm, B(max) = 1.8{Tau}.

Production reactor disposal on the Hanford site

Description: One of the many restoration challenges for the Hanford Site is the disposal of eight plutonium production reactors inactive since 1971. In order to minimize environmental and public health and safety impacts disposal alternatives were evaluated in an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). Alternatives considered were no action, immediate one-piece removal, safe storage followed by deferred one- piece removal, safe storage followed by deferred dismantlement, and in-situ decommissioning. Evaluatio… more

Safety evaluation for packaging CPC metal boxes

Description: This Safety Evaluation for Packaging (SEP) provides authorization for the use of Container Products Corporation (CPC) metal boxes, as described in this document, for the interarea shipment of radioactive contaminated equipment and debris for storage in the Central Waste Complex (CWC) or T Plant located in the 200 West Area. Authorization is granted until November 30, 1995. The CPC boxes included in this SEP were originally procured as US Department of Transportation (DOT) Specification 7A Type … more

Safety evaluation for packaging (onsite) plutonium recycle test reactor graphite cask

Description: This safety evaluation for packaging (SEP) provides the evaluation necessary to demonstrate that the Plutonium Recycle Test Reactor (PRTR) Graphite Cask meets the requirements of WHC-CM-2-14, Hazardous Material Packaging and Shipping, for transfer of Type B, fissile, non-highway route controlled quantities of radioactive material within the 300 Area of the Hanford Site. The scope of this SEP includes risk, shieldling, criticality, and.tiedown analyses to demonstrate that onsite transportation s… more

The ultra-fast injection kicker for SXLS

Description: The single bump injection scheme for the SXLS (Superconducting X-Ray Lithography Source) compact synchrotron required very stringent rise and fall time of no more than 15 nsec and a flat-top of 50--60 nsec. These parameters were achieved in a magnetic device of 75 cm length with a maximum field of 75 gauss. The construction and switching techniques along with the associated components will be described. Results of magnetic field measurements and measurements of the effect of the kicker on the i… more
