Search for ZZ and Z\gamma^* production in p-barp collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV and limits on anomalous ZZZ and ZZ\gamma^* couplings

Description: The authors present a study of {mu}{mu}{mu}{mu}, eeee, and {mu}{mu}ee events using 1 fb{sup -1} of data collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron p{bar p} Collider at {radical}s = 1.96 TeV. Requiring the lepton pair masses to be greater than 30 GeV, they observe one event, consistent with the expected background of 0.13 {+-} 0.03 events and with the predicted standard model ZZ and Z{gamma}* production of 1.71 {+-} 0.15 events. They set an upper limit on the ZZ and Z{gamma}* cross … more

Search for new gauge bosons at D{O}

Description: The authors have searched for evidence of W{prime} {yields} e{nu} and Z{prime} {yields} ee in data collected with the D{O} detector at the Tevatron during the 1992--1993 p{anti p} collider run at {radical}s = 1.8 TeV. They exclude the existence of a W{prime} of mass less than 600 GeV/c{sup 2} and a Z{prime} of mass less than 480 GeV/c{sup 2} at the 95% confidence level, assuming standard model couplings to quarks and leptons.

Measurement of dijet angular distributions at sqrt{s}=1.96TeV and searches for quark compositeness and extra spatial dimensions

Description: We present the first measurement of dijet angular distributions in p{bar p} collisions at {radical}s = 1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The measurement is based on a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 0.7 fb{sup -1} collected with the D0 detector. Dijet angular distributions have been measured over a range of dijet masses, from 0.25 TeV to above 1.1 TeV. The data are in good agreement with the predictions of perturbative QCD and are used to constrain new physics mod… more

Measurement of the W mass in the D0 detector

Description: We report the results of a preliminary analysis of the W {r_arrow} e{nu} decays observed in 14 pb{sup {minus}1} of data taken during the Fermilab Tevatron Run l(a). After normalizing the mass scale to the Z mass measured at LEP, we find a value for the W mass of 79.86 {plus_minus} 0.16(stat) {plus_minus} 0.20(syst) {plus_minus} 0.31(scale) GeV. The method for extracting the W mass and the details of the error analysis are presented and discusses.

Studies of jet production with the DO detector

Description: During the first collider run at the Tevatron, the DO experiment has accumulated a large sample of events with jet final states, covering a jet E{sub T} range from about 30 to 400 GeV and pseudorapidities up to {eta} = 3.2. First results about the transverse energy flow as a function of the jet cone size R are obtained and presented. The study of the two leading E{sub T} jets in events results in a measurement of the dijet angular distribution 1/{sigma}d{sigma}/d{Chi} as well as the triple diff… more

Production of jets in association with W vector bosons in the D0 detector

Description: The D0 detector has accumulating data at the Fermilab Tevatron at {radical}s = 1.8 TeV for several months. In this paper we present the results of an analysis based on 1.1 pb{sup {minus}1} of data. We compare the observed W transverse momentum distributions of W+0jet and W+1jet events with a full D0 detector simulated leading order Monte Carlo. The jet multiplicity distributions associated with W are presented as well as new method of testing NLO QCD predictions and measuring the strong couplin… more

Search for the top quark from (e,{mu}) and (e,e) events in the D0 detector in p{bar p} collisions at {radical}s = 1.8 TeV

Description: We present results from searches for top quark production in p{bar p} collisions at the Tevatron collider based on an integrated luminosity of 7.5 pb{sup {minus}1} obtained during the 1992--1993 ran. The present results are confined to decay modes where both the top and anti-top quarks in the event decay semi-leptonically to the ee and e{mu} channels. A lower limit of 103 (99) GeV/c{sup 2} is obtained at 95% confidence level for the top quark mass from the absence of events consistent with stan… more

The search for squarks, gluinos and stop squarks in D0

Description: Searches through data collected by D0 at Fermilab during the 1992-- 1993 p {bar p} collider run for the supersymmetric partners to the quark and the gluon, the squark and gluino, including a low mass scalar top squark, are reviewed. A set of classic searches were conducted for missing E{sub T} plus jets signatures. No evidence of positive signals is reported, but limits are set on the squark and gluino masses.

A search for t{anti t} {yields} lepton + E{sub T} + jets signature in p{anti p} collisions at {radical}s = 1.8 TeV with the D0 detector

Description: The authors report the results from a search for t{anti t} production in p{anti p} collisions at {radical}s = 1.8 TeV with the D0 detector at Fermilab in the final states consisting of one isolated high p{sub T} lepton (e or {mu}), multiple jets and a substantial missing transverse energy (E{sub T}), excluding the events that have {mu}-tagged jets. Two independent analysis approaches lead them to similar estimates for the cross-section. They see no conclusive evidence for top production in the … more

Tests of the D0 calorimeter response in 2--150 GeV beams

Description: At the heart of the D0 detector, which recently started its maiden data run at the Fermilab Tevatron p{bar p} collider, is a finely segmented hermetic large angle liquid argon calorimeter. We present here results from the latest test beam studies of the calorimeter in 1991. Modules from the central calorimeter, end calorimeter and the inter-cryostat detector were included in this run. New results on resolution, uniformity and linearity will be presented with electron and pion beams of various e… more

Study of B{sup 0}-{bar B}{sup 0} mixing in D0

Description: The probability of B{sup 0}-{bar B}{sup 0} mixing has been measured using the D{O} detector. Non-isolated dimuon events are used to determine the ratio of like to unlike-sign pairs. The measured ratio is 0.48 {+-} 0.04(stat.) {+-} 0.03(syst.), compared with the expected value of 0.23 {+-} 0.07 in the absence of B{sup 0}-{bar B}{sup 0} mixing. The combined mixing probability is measured to be 0.13 {+-} 0.02(stat.) {+-} 0.05(syst.) in good agreement with other experimental measurements.

A Search for Rapidity Gaps in Jet Events and a Study of Color Coherence in Multijet Events at D0

Description: The authors present studies of Rapidity Gaps and Color Coherence in jet events at the DO Detector for data taken during the recent Tevatron collider run at {radical}s = 1.8 TeV. An upper limit of f({Delta}{eta}{sub c} > 3) < 1.2 {times} 10{sup {minus}2} {at} 95% C.L. on the true rapidity gap fraction is given. The color coherence results indicate the angle ordering approximation as modeled in the Herwig Monte Carlo represents the collider as well.
