Did Anything Good Come Out of the Pandemic? COVID-19-Stress Induced Self-Regulatory Sustainable Apparel Consumption among the Millennials in the U.S.

Description: Authors of the article proposed and tested a conceptual model delineating the relationships between COVID-19 stress, commitment to the environment, and intentions for sustainable apparel consumption in terms of intentions for purchasing sustainable apparel and divesting apparel. The authors recommend the sustainable apparel brands and marketers promote how sustainable apparel consumption can protect the environment to make the environment and human beings less susceptible to the future outbreak… more

A multiscale approach reveals elaborate circulatory system and intermittent heartbeat in velvet worms (Onychophora)

Description: Article describes how an antagonistic hemolymph-muscular system is essential for soft-bodied invertebrates. The authors analyzed the entire circulatory system of the peripatopsid Euperipatoides rowelli and claimed they discovered a surprisingly elaborate organization.

Tuning the temperature range of superelastic Ni-Ti alloys for elastocaloric cooling via thermal processing

Description: Article describes how caloric cooling enlisting solid-state refrigerants is potentially a promising eco-friendly alternative to conventional cooling based on vapor compression. Here, the authors have explored tuning the operation temperature range of Ni50.8Ti49.2 for elastocaloric cooling. In particular, they have studied the effect of thermal treatments (a.k.a. aging) on the transformation temperature, superelasticity, and elastocaloric effects of Ni50.8Ti49.2 shape memory alloy tubes.

Detecting interdisciplinary semantic drift for knowledge organization based on normal cloud model

Description: Article describes how, to reduce the conceptual ambiguity in interdisciplinary knowledge organization systems (KOSs) and enhance interdisciplinary KOS management, this paper proposes a framework for interdisciplinary semantic drift (ISD) detection based on the normal cloud model (NCM). The research indicates the meaning of an interdisciplinary concept will drift from the high KPE discipline to the low KPE discipline as long as interdisciplinary knowledge potential differences (KPD) exist betwee… more

A Remarkable Difference in Pharmacokinetics of Fluorinated Versus Iodinated Photosensitizers Derived from Chlorophyll-a and a Direct Correlation between the Tumor Uptake and Anti-Cancer Activity

Description: Article says that to investigate and compare the pharmacokinetic profile and anti-cancer activity of fluorinated and iodinated photosensitizers (PSs), the 3-(1′-(o-fluorobenzyloxy)ethyl pyropheophorbide and the corresponding meta-(m-) and para (p-) fluorinated analogs (methyl esters and carboxylic acids) were synthesized. According to the authors, the nature of the delivery vehicle and tumor types showed a significant difference in uptake and long-term cure by photodynamic therapy (PDT), especi… more

Mapping hierarchical and heterogeneous micromechanics of a transformative high entropy alloy by nanoindentation and machine learning augmented clustering

Description: Article describes how conventional macromechanical tests provide limited insights into complex hierarchical deformation behavior of a transformative high entropy alloy (HEA). In this work, a high throughput microstructure-micromechanical correlative study is presented by combining high-resolution nanoindentation, site-specific microscopy, and Gaussian mixture model (GMM) clustering.

Maternal migraine and risk of pediatric cancers

Description: Article describes how maternal migraine has been linked to adverse birth outcomes including low birth weight and preterm birth, as well as congenital anomalies in offspring. Authors used logistic regression to estimate the risk of childhood cancers associated with maternal migraine.

Dynamic Motions of Topological Defects in Nematic Liquid Crystals under Spatial Confinement

Description: Article discusses how topological defects (TDs) have become a sensational topic due to their significant influence on the unusual optical and physiochemical characteristics of the material. Here, authors assert how nematic liquid crystals confined in a cell exhibiting surfaces with periodic anchoring conditions containing surface topography are relied on.
