Control of radio-iodine emissions from the separations plants

Description: The release of radio-iodine from the irradiated uranium during dissolution, and the emission of a portion of this radio-iodine to the environs via the separations plant stacks continues to be a problem in spite of the expenditure of several million dollars for equipment designed to remove the radio-iodine from the gaseous wastes. Analysis and testing the performance of a centrifugal two phase flow separator

Description: Analysis and testing the performance of an 8 in., 1.72 ft high centrifugal cyclone separator for flows up to 4.0 lbs/s and pressures ranging from 10 to 60 psig. Conclusions drawn are based on inlet steam qualities of 23 to 27 percent (x% = m/sub s//m /sub t/) .99% and better steam quality is achieved up to 3 lbs/s under 50 and 60 psig. Breakdown flow rate is found to be a linear function of separator pressure.
