The design of vacuum vessel armor plate for neutral beam systems presents a number of challenges to the engineer. Heat fluxes of several hundred watts/cm/sup 2/ must be handled on a routine basis during normal plasma operations, and a factor of ten increase in these fluxes can occur during plasma disruptions.
