Reservoir Engineering Aspects of the Philippines Geothermal Developments in Leyte and Southern Negros

Description: The current state of development of the Tongonan and Puhagan geothermal fields in the Philippines is presented and the nature of the reservoirs is described. In the latter part of the paper, reservoir engineering techniques which have been found to be particularly valuable are discussed and some aspects which give rise to problems are identified.

Reservoir Simulation on the Cerro Prieto Geothermal Field: A Continuing Study

Description: The Cerro Prieto geothermal field is a liquid-dominated geothermal reservoir of complex geological and hydrological structure. Resource Evaluation and Development Plans for a 120 MW Geothermal Power Plant on Milos Island, Greece

Description: Five deep wells have been drilled on the Island of Milos, Greece, identifying a high-temperature, high-enthalpy geothermal reservoir. The thermodynamic properties of the fluid, and the estimated porosity and presumed thickness of the formation suggest a fluid and heat storage capacity that could support a 60 MWe power plant for 85 years or a 120 MWe for half that time. Response of East Mesa and Raft River Reservoirs to Injection-Backflow Testing

Description: Analysis of tracer recovery curves from injection-backflow testing at two geothermal reservoirs reveals large differences in response between the two. The East Mesa reservoir is in a layered sandstone matrix, and tracer behavior can be adequately described by porous media theory. Rock Failure in Compression

Description: Mechanisms of rock failure in compression--axial splitting and shear failiure-- are studied, based on a microscopic consideration. Analytical models are constructed and model experiments on plates of a brittle polymer are performed. A Status Report on the Exploitation Conditions of the Ahuachapan Geothermal Field

Description: The present exploitation conditions of the Ahuachapan field are discussed. The high well density in a small area has resulted in a significant reservoir pressure decrease due to the inherent reservoir over-exploitation. Temperatures and interval geothermal-gradient determinations from wells in National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska

Variation of Fracturing Pressures with Depth Near the Valles Caldera

Description: Hydraulic Fracturing at the Fenton Hill Hot Dry Rock Geothermal site near the Valles Caldera has yielded fracturing pressures from 14 to 81 MPa (2030 to 11,750 psi) at depths ranging from 0.7 to 4.4 km (2250 to 14,400 ft). This data can be fit to a fracture gradient of 19 MPa/km (0.84 psi/ft), except for an anomalous region between 2.6 to 3.2 km where fracturing pressures are about 20 MPa lower than estiamted using the above gradient.
