CP VIOLATION HIGHLIGHTS: CIRCA 2005

Description: Recent highlights in CP violation phenomena, are reviewed. B-factory results imply that, CP-violation phase in the CKM matrix is the dominant contributor to the observed CP violation in K and B-physics. Deviations from the predictions of the CKM-paradigm due to beyond the Standard Model CP-odd phase are likely to be a small perturbation. Therefore, large data sample of clean B's will be needed. THE PHENIX EXPERIMENT AT RHIC.

Description: PHENIX is a large detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) at BNL. RHIC and PHENIX have recently operated for the first time, producing and detecting collisions of gold ions at beam energies of 30 and 65 GeV per nucleon. The current performance and future plans of PHENIX and of RHIC are presented.

Structure and Electronic Properties of Cerium Orthophosphate: Theory and Experiment

Description: Structural and electronic properties of cerium orthophosphate (CePO{sub 4}) are calculated using density functional theory (DFT) with the local spin-density approximation (LSDA+U), with and without gradient corrections (GGA-(PBE)+U), and compared to X-ray diffraction and photoemission spectroscopy measurements. Phase Diagram of Iron, Revised-Core Temperatures

Description: Shock-wave experiments on iron preheated to 1,573 K conducted from 14 to 73 GPa, yield new data for sound velocities of the {gamma}- and liquid-phases. Melting was observed in the highest pressure ({approximately} 71 {+-} 2 GPa) experiments at calculated shock temperatures of 2,775 {+-} 160 K. Descriptive Complexity in Cantor Series

Description: Article discusses how a Cantor series expansion for a real number x with respect to a basic sequence Q=(q), where qi≥2, is a generalization of the base b expansion to an infinite sequence of bases. The authors show that for any basic sequence the set of distribution normal numbers is Π03-complete, and if Q is 1-divergent then the sets of normal and ratio normal numbers are Π03-complete.

Galaxy Clusters in the Swift/Bat Era Ii: 10 More Clusters Detected Above 15 Kev

Description: We report on the discovery of 10 additional galaxy clusters detected in the ongoing Swift/BAT all-sky survey. Among the newly BAT-discovered clusters there are: Bullet, Abell 85, Norma, and PKS 0745-19. Norma is the only cluster, among those presented here, which is resolved by BAT. Adaptive optics high resolution spectroscopy: present status and future direction

Description: High resolution spectroscopy experiments with visible adaptive optics (AO) telescopes at Starfire Optical Range and Mt.
