Characterize traction–separation relation and interfacial imperfections by data-driven machine learning models

Description: This article combines machine learning (ML), finite element analysis (FEA), and empirical experiments to develop data-driven models that characterize interfacial mechanical properties precisely. It also provides a code package containing trained ML models, allowing other researchers to establish T–S relations for different material interfaces.

Friction stir welding of SS 316 LN and Nitronic 50 jacket sections for application in superconducting fusion magnet systems

Description: Article explores the possibility of using friction stir welding (FSW) to join jacket web sections of two nitrogen-containing stainless steels for housing internally cooled superconducting cables which are utilized to generate magnetic fields in tokamak type fusion reactor systems. It has been shown that the FSW fabricated SS 316 LN jackets possessed the required strength and magnetic properties critical to this application.

Tribocatalytically-active nickel/cobalt phosphorous films for universal protection in a hydrocarbon-rich environment

Description: Article describes how high-contact stresses generated at the sliding interfaces during their relative movement provide a unique combination of local heating and shear- and load-induced compression conditions. The authors of the article employ the electrodeposition process to design a coating composed of a hard cobalt-phosphorous matrix with the inclusion of tribocatalytically-active nickel clusters.
