Liquid Phase Methanol Laporte Process Development Unit: Modification, Operation, and Support Studies

Description: A gas phase and a slurry phase radioactive tracer study was performed on the 12 ton/day Liquid Phase Methanol (LPMEOH) Process Development Unit (PDU) in LaPorte, Texas. To study the gas phase mixing characteristics, a radioactive argon tracer was injected into the feed gas and residence time distribution was generated by measuring the response at the reactor outlet. Radioactive manganese oxide powder was independently injected into the reactor to measure the slurry phase mixing characteristics.… more

Oxygen Electrodes for Energy Conversion and Storage. Annual Report II, 1 October 1978-30 September 1979

Description: Progress is reported on the development of high performance oxygen electrodes for a spectrum of applications including industrial electrolysis, metal-air batteries and fuel cells. The research emphasizes the development of more effective electrocatalysts for both O/sub 2/ reduction and electrogeneration and the development of more effective electrode structures (particularly for O/sub 2/ cathodes) for utilizing these catalysts. It also includes the development of a predictive base to guide the … more

Survey of electrochemical production of inorganic compounds. Final report

Description: The electrochemical generation of inorganic compounds, excluding chlorine/caustic, has been critically reviewed. About 60 x 10/sup 12/ Btu/y fossil fuel equivalent will be used in the year 2000 for the electrosynthesis of inorganic compounds. Significant energy savings in chlorate production can result from the development of suitable electrocatalysts for lowering the cathodic overpotential. Perchlorates, electrolytic hypochlorite, electrolytic manganese dioxide, fluorine and other miscellaneou… more
