DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION, AND STATUS OF ALL NIOBIUM SUPERCONDUCTING PHOTOINJECTOR AT BNL.

Description: We present here the design and construction of an all niobium superconducting RF injector to generate high average current, high brightness electron beam. A 1/2 cell superconducting cavity has been designed, built, and tested. A cryostat has been built to cool the cavity to {approx}2 K. The RF system can deliver up to 500 W at 1.3 GHz to the cavity. A mode-locked Nd:YVO{sub 4} laser, operating at 266 nm with 0.15 W average power, phase locked to the RF, will irradiate a laser cleaned Nb surface… more

STELLA-II: DEMONSTRATION OF MONOENERGETIC LASER ACCELERATION.

Description: Monoenergetic laser acceleration of trapped microbunches has been demonstrated for the first time. An inverse free electron laser (IFEL) is used to create microbunches, which are then accelerated by a second IFEL using a tapered undulatos. An adjustable magnetic field chicane is located between the two IFELs and is used to control the phase of the microbunches with respect to the laser field in the second IFEL. HIGH CURRENT SUPERCONDUCTING CAVITIES AT RHIC.

Description: A five-cell high current superconducting cavity for the electron cooling project at RHIC is under fabrication. Higher order modes (HOMs), one of main limiting factors for high current energy-recovery operation, are under investigation. Description: One of the frontiers in FEL science is that of high power. In order to reach power in the megawatt range, one requires a current of the order of one ampere with a reasonably good emittance. Status of high current R&D Energy Recovery LINAC at Brookhaven National Laboratory

Description: An ampere class 20 MeV superconducting Energy Recovery Linac (ERL) is under construction at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) for testing of concepts relevant for high-energy coherent electron cooling and electron-ion colliders. First Demonstration of Staged Laser Acceleration.

Description: Two independently-driven laser accelerators were operated together in series for the first time in a proof-of-principle experiment to demonstrate staging. The ability to stage together these devices is important for eventually building practical laser-driven accelerators.
