Effect of Iron on the Low Temperature Precipitation of Tubanyl Peroxide in Beta

Description: Abstract: "In the low temperature precipitation of tubanyl peroxide from Beta gunks, process modifications are described which minimize the effect of iron on decompisition of H2O2. These include the addition of excess H2O2 to the slurry only after attaining a reduced temperature, the use of malonic and acetic acid complexing when the H2O2 is added at room temperature, and the use of wetting agents when the entire process is carried out at 2 C."

Separation of Iron and Tuballoy With Phthallic Acid

Description: Introduction: This report embodies the results of an investigation as to the possibility of removing the bulk of the iron from gunk solutions of various concentrations by precipitation of the iron with phthallic acid and subsequent precipitation of tuballoy. The method consists of dissolving the phthallic acid in the gunk solution and then adding NH₃ to a suitable pH, precipitating the iron, and leaving the tuballoy in solution.

TO₃ Reduction and Chlorination in the Experimental Glass Fluidizer

Description: Abstract: "Temperatures above 400 C are required before reduction will take place with AH3. Above 500 C, a pyrophoric product was obtained. The chlorination temperature should be about 350 C initially and above 450 C at the end of the reaction to achieve 99% chlorination."

Tuballoy Oxides in the Reduction of TO₃

Description: Introduction: "This investigation was undertaken because of the importance of the reduction of TO3 to TO2 by hydrogen gas in the conversion of TO3 to TF4. We hoped to discover what factors affect the rate of reduction and the quantitativeness of the yield."

A New Procedure for the Colorimetric Determination of Tellurium

Description: Abstract: "A rapid colorimetric method for the determination of traces of tellurium (20-100[gamma]) depending upon the color of a colloidal suspension of the metal has been developed. It is accurate to 2-3%. Only those ions interfere which form insoluble chlorides or which are reduced to the elemental state by stannous chloride. The time required for a complete analysis is 10-15 minutes."

High Voltage Rectification

Description: Introduction: "This meeting was called by Mr. S. H. Smiley in order to review progress made on the corrosion problem since the last meeting on September 5th, and to devise a definite program on the specific problem of the corrosion of the coolant coolers. The minutes of the last meeting were reviewed briefly and it was pointed out that neither the corrosion of the water piping nor the hot water tanks presented any immediate concern. The chief concern then is with the excessive pitting of the co… more

The Metal-Dielectric Junction of High-Voltage Insulators in Vacuum and Magnetic Field

Description: From introduction: "This study is concerned with the shape of the electrodes of high-voltage insulator and with the method of joining them to the dielectric. The study is limited to insulators operating in vacuum, with special interest in the cases where strong magnetic fields are present. It is further limited to insulators with the high-voltage electrodes maintained at negative potential. The object of the study was to obtain information that would aid in improving the design of the insulator… more

Separation of Tuballoy From Gunk Solutions by Sulfite Precipitation

Description: Summary: A method is presented for the precipitation of tuballoy, apparently as a tubanyl ammonium sulfite, from gunk solutions containing the contaminants encountered in the recovery cycle. The impurities are not precipitated under the conditions employed, and their amounts in the product are reduced to values which can be attributed to occlusion. The recovery of tuballoy on one precipitation ranges from 99.5% to 99.9%.
