Pocket almanack, for the year of our Lord 1847

Description: Almanac for 1847, bound in publisher's yellow printed wrappers, with hole at upper left through which a string is looped for suspension. The almanac contains information on eclipses, tides, phases of the moon, rising and setting of the moon/sun, historical facts, and quotations. Anonymous gift to the Miniature Books Collection in 2003.

Parables of our Lord

Description: An elegant gift volume from the early Victorian era consisting of a selection of parables from the New Testament. The text is done in a calligraphic style, with ornate illuminated borders. Within many of the borders are small illustrations of the text. The text and illuminations were recreated from the originals by chromolithographs. The binding is a "papier-mâché" binding, consisting of front and back covers of deeply-molded black paper-mâché and a leather spine.

[Binder's Collection: Civil War Pieces]

Description: Bound compilation of sheet music from a variety of composers, prominently featuring songs about subjects related to the U.S. Civil War, from the Union perspective. Other works include dances for piano with a particular emphasis on galops and waltzes. A majority of titles in this volume were published in Boston, primarily by Oliver Ditson & Co. While the works range in date from 1846 through the 1870s, the most frequently appearing dates are between 1864 and 1866.
