Energy Policy: Comprehensive Energy Legislation (H.R. 6) in the 109th Congress

Description: The House passed H.R. 6, the Energy Policy Act of 2005, on April 21, 2005 (249-183). The legislation includes a “safe harbor” provision to protect methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) refiners from product liability suits, which was retained after a close vote on an amendment to drop the language (213-219). In the 108th Congress, there was opposition to this provision in the Senate. It is unclear how its inclusion may affect Senate passage of an energy bill in the 109th Congress. House Republican… more

Integrated Disposal Facility FY2011 Glass Testing Summary Report

Description: Pacific Northwest National Laboratory was contracted by Washington River Protection Solutions, LLC to provide the technical basis for estimating radionuclide release from the engineered portion of the disposal facility (e.g., source term). Vitrifying the low-activity waste at Hanford is expected to generate over 1.6 x 10{sup 5} m{sup 3} of glass (Certa and Wells 2010). The volume of immobilized low-activity waste (ILAW) at Hanford is the largest in the DOE complex and is one of the largest inve… more

Final Report for "Experimental Petrology and Chemistry of Volatile-Bearing Silicate Melts"

Description: The goal of Part 1 was the definitive determination of the dependence of the diffusion coefficient for water (DH2O, defined as the diffusion coefficient of total water) in various compositions of silicate melts with respect to water content (CH2O). We measured profiles of CH2O in hydration and diffusion couple experiments by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and secondary ion mass spectrometry. DH2O values were determined from the profiles using both direct calculations (Boltzmann-Matano … more

Third millenium ideal gas and condensed phase thermochemical database for combustion (with update from active thermochemical tables).

Description: The thermochemical database of species involved in combustion processes is and has been available for free use for over 25 years. It was first published in print in 1984, approximately 8 years after it was first assembled, and contained 215 species at the time. This is the 7th printed edition and most likely will be the last one in print in the present format, which involves substantial manual labor. The database currently contains more than 1300 species, specifically organic molecules and radi… more
