Lamkang Traditonal Knik known as Diphuun Ksen

Description: Photograph of [diphuun ksen] a Lamkang traditional wrap around worn by women, 'knik'. Woven by Tony Khular, of Thamlakhuren village, this knik was designed by Sankhil Thampool Khularnu of Thamlakhuren village in the early 1970s. She designed this diphuun ksen with the Lamkang Tkar buw K'err, also called 'Angbrasu buw'. It was worn by the Lamkang choir in the competition with Tkar buw Kpool during the Manipur Baptist Convention in Mao Songsong.

Traditional story about Raapa

Description: Recording of the Raapa Story by Stephon Sankhil. A tiger, angry at being duped by Koreng, eats him. Koreng's sisters vow to marry whoever kills the tiger, and the only one able to do it is Raapa. Jealous, the other men conspire to kill Raapa, but he survives two attempts and tricks them so that they drown. In the end Koreng's sisters kill Raapa.

Description: A traditional folktale of Raapaa as told by Shetphong Sankhil at Thamlapokpi village in Chandel district, Manipur, India. Raapaa is a poor honest boy who killed the tiger. The best shooters tried killing the tiger but the poor Raapaa who shot the tiger with his grandmothers payaai and kling Khuu, which is a weaving implement, not an arrow, as he cannot afford to own an arrow and bow.
