Break up

Description: Recording of Jorge Rapp's Argentina. This work uses sounds from two sources: one acoustic and the other electronically generated by a DX7. The acoustic material is predominant and has been processed with traditional techniques. It is made up of three parts: in the first, the acoustic sounds are strongly evocative; in the second, the electronic sounds develop continuously; and the ones of acoustic origin provide transitions. In the third the dramatic quality increases as the acoustic materials comes to the foreground once more.

Description: Recording of Pablo Cetta's ...que me hiciste mal... This piece refers to the fragmentation of 33 famous tangos, which are utilized in the piece. There is a brief dialog between two characters, played by popular tango singers. When these tango are electronically processed they take on a new significance.

Silence... on fait du bruit !

Description: Recording of Marc Tremblay's "Silence...on fait du bruit". The definition of the word noise in the Larousse dictionary has a character that is both amusing and disturbing: "set of sounds without harmony". The piece is divided into two parts: lively and slow. Deliberately anecdotal in the first part, the piece slides towards an abstract atmosphere to discreetly salute the great noise makers that the Italian futurists were in their manifesto: "the art of noises".

Racter and eliza - A computer opera (of mistakes)

Description: Recording of Burt Warren's Racter and Eliza- A computer opera (of mistakes). For computer voice synthesis. Racter and Eliza are two computer programs which were early attempts at artificial intelligence. The computers were ran by feeding the outputs of one into the input of the other and they were able to interact. Using an Amiga computer little speech synthesis was used, and the voices were fed through a malfunctioning pitch to voltage converter; resulting the electronic accompaniment.

KBBL - The morning show

Description: Recording of Roger Doyle's KBBL - The morning show. This is an imaginary radio station broadcasting from the 25th floor of a mile-high futuristic tower of Babel. The composer has collaborated with D.J.D, singers and actors and in his private studio has re-created a parallel universe tower city where people of many cultures live together. The composer played all instruments and engineered and produced the whole thing.

Ta-Ju

Description: Recording of Rainer Bürck's Ta-Ju. The player can freely carry out his actions in the given control fields, whereby he can choose at will from the different possibilities that are listed in the respective field, which consists of various extended musical techniques. The player is, in a broad sense, responsible to the tape to respond to. A good performance is only achieved when the soloist's playing with the tom-tape together gives some musical meaning.

Tuba spheres

Fantasy

Description: Recording of James Aikman's Fantasy. It is a work for violin and tape. This piece is in five short sections ranging from lyric to bold sounds and there are quarter-tone inflections in the tape part. The violin is sampled and digitally edited which is used tp provide the bulk of the tape dialogue. There is also use of synchronous music with the soloist and the tape. The last instrument and technique is composing a unified free interplay where synchronization is not indented.

Cruelties-A catalogue of grotesque events with real-life examples

Description: Recording of Ian Willcock's Cruelties-a catalogue of grotesque events with real-life examples. This piece has very little development of the material, transformation is achieved through juxtaposition and seems almost repetitive. Newspaper sounds participate in this same process along with the instruments and tape sounds. The whole work is in three main sections which are performed without a pause. The second part is further divided by the four predominantly solo episodes for the voice - the Refuge songs.

Dreampaths, A Walk Through Ezra Pound's Canto 90

Description: Recording of JoAnn Kuchera-Morin's A Walk Through Ezra Pound's Canto 90. This is a single movement work for soprano solo, two sopranos, two altos, and computer generated tape. In the text of the Canto, Pound incorporates Latin, English, Chinese and Greek, in order to describe the visual imagery of the poem which begins with a quote from Richard of St Victor. The computer-generated portion of the work is composed of both synthesized sounds and sampled, processed sounds from a collection of Chinese instruments.

Concerto for clarinet and clarinets

Description: Recording of JoAnn Kuchera-Morin's Concerto for clarinets and clarinets. This work is a single movement work for clarinet and computer-generated tape and exhibits a traditional concerto structure with the computer resembling the orchestra. The computer generated portion is made up of instruments designed from sampled clarinets tones which are cross-synthesized with string like instruments. The hybrid instruments include extended clarinets technique and legato clarinet ones.
