The Keystone Center Final Technical Report

Description: The Keystone Center began its work with the Environmental Management Science Program (EMSP) in May, 1996, when The Center agreed to design, organize, and facilitate stakeholder meetings at two DOE sites: Savannah River and Hanford. These meetings were held June 24--25, 1996 for the purpose of discussing the role of EMSP in constructing a site-specific basic research agenda that maps site cleanup needs to basic science areas. Summaries of the discussions from these meetings as well as lists of t… more

Ordering in classical Coulombic systems.

Description: The author discusses the properties of classical Coulombic matter at low temperatures. It has been well known for some time [1,2] that infinite Coulombic matter will crystallize in body-centered cubic form when the quantity {Lambda} (the dimensionless ratio of the average two-particle Coulomb energy to the kinetic energy per particle) is larger than {approximately}175. But the systems of such particles that have been produced in the laboratory in ion traps, or ion beams, are finite with surface… more

Thermal model of the whole element furnace

Description: A detailed thermal analysis was performed to calculate temperatures in the whole element test furnace that is used to conduct drying studies of N-Reactor fuel. The purpose of this analysis was to establish the thermal characteristics of the test system and to provide a basis for post-test analysis.

A few-group delayed neutron model based on a consistent set of decay constants

Description: As part of an international effort, the Los Alamos National Laboratory has been asked to (1) determine if there is a set of dominant precursors that are common to all fissionable isotopes and all incident neutron energies, (2) expand the existing experimentally-measured few-group models commonly used in the nuclear industry into their 8-group equivalent using a consistent set of decay constants corresponding to these dominant precursors, and (3) formulate new group spectra for the equivalent 8-… more

Inhour equation in a two-region reactor with multiplication in both regions

Description: In Reference 1 (G.D. Spriggs, R.D. Busch, and John G. Williams, ``Two-Region Kinetic Model for Reflected Reactors,`` Ann. Nucl. Energy, 24, No. 3, 205, (1997)), the authors presented a two-region point kinetic model for reflected reactors based on the Avery-Cohn differential equations. The model was developed for a core region surrounded by a non-multiplying, source-free reflector region. As part of the model development, they also introduced several probability relationships that were essentia… more
