Overexpression of native carbonic anhydrases increases carbon conversion efficiency in the methanotrophic biocatalyst Methylococcus capsulatus Bath

Description: In this article authors show that M. capsulatus expresses five carbonic anhydrase (CA) isoforms, one α-CA, one γ-CA, and three β-CAs, that play a role in its inorganic carbon metabolism and CO2-dependent growth. The authors developed an engineered methanotrophic biocatalyst overexpressing the native α-CA and β-CA with a 2.5-fold improvement in the conversion of CH4 to biomass.

Association between help-seeking and motivation for completing a couple relationship education program across service modality

Description: The authors assert that levels of motivation and help-seeking impact the effectiveness of couple relationship education (CRE), as those with greater help-seeking and motivation are more likely to attend more sessions and remain engaged. The current study aims to examine (a) the effect of couples' self-stigma for help-seeking on their own or partner's motivation to complete the relationship education program and (b) whether the effects differ between service modality (i.e., online and in-person). more

Climate, food and humans predict communities of mammals in the United States

Description: This article states that the assembly of species into communities and ecoregions is the result of interacting factors that affect plant and animal distribution and abundance at biogeographic scales. Here, the authors empirically derive ecoregions for mammals to test whether human disturbance has become more important than climate and habitat resources in structuring communities.

DRG2 is required for surface localization of PD-L1 and the efficacy of anti-PD-1 therapy

Description: This article shows that developmentally regulated GTP-binding protein 2 (DRG2) is required for response of PD-L1-expressing tumors to anti-PD-1 therapy. These findings identify DRG2 as a key regulator of recycling of endosomal PD-L1 and response to anti-PD-1 therapy and provide insights into how to increase the correlation between PD-L1 expression and response to anti-PD-1.

Artificial Intelligence's Role in Digitally Preserving Historic Archives

Description: This paper delves into the historical evolution of preservation methods driven by technological advancements as, throughout history, libraries, archives, and museums have grappled with the challenge of preserving historical collections, while many of the traditional preservation methods are costly and involve a lot of manual (human) effort. This paper addresses the following questions: could AI be what changes or creates a paradigm shift in how preservation is done?; and could it be the thing t… more

A demonstrator for a real-time AI-FPGA-based triggering system for sPHENIX at RHIC

Description: This article asserts that the RHIC interaction rate at sPHENIX will reach around 3 MHz in pp collisions and requires the detector readout to reject events by a factor of over 200 to fit the DAQ bandwidth of 15 kHz. The authors of this article explore a new approach based on real-time AI technology, adopt an FPGA-based implementation using a custom designed FELIX-712 board with the Xilinx Kintex Ultrascale FPGA, and deploy the system in the detector readout electronics loop for real-time trigger… more

Solid-State Hydrogen Storage Origin and Design Principles of Carbon-Based Light Metal Single-Atom Materials

Description: This article asserts that solid-state storage of hydrogen molecules in carbon-based light metal single-atom materials is promising to achieve both high hydrogen storage capacity and uptake rate, but there is a lack of fundamental understanding and design principles to guide the rational design of the materials. Here, a theoretical relationship is established between the hydrogen capacity/rate and the structures of the heteroatom-doped-graphene-supported light metal Li single atom materials for … more
