Complexity synchronization in emergent intelligence

Description: The authors of this article use a simple multi-agent-based-model (MABM) of a social network, implementing selfish algorithm agents, to create an adaptive environment and show, using a modified diffusion entropy analysis (DEA), that the mutual-adaptive interaction between the parts of such a network manifests complexity synchronization. The authors find the same kind of complexity synchronization in the emergent intelligence of groups formed in a self-organized social interaction without macrosc… more

Benchmarking RNA-Seq Aligners at Base-Level and Junction Base-Level Resolution Using the Arabidopsis thaliana Genome

Description: This article asserts that the utmost goal of selecting an RNA-Seq alignment software is to perform accurate alignments with a robust algorithm, which is capable of detecting the various intricacies underlying read-mapping procedures and beyond. The authors focused on benchmarking RNA-Seq read alignment tools, using simulated data derived from the model organism Arabidopsis thaliana. They assessed the performance of five popular RNA-Seq alignment tools that are currently available, based on thei… more

Cross-modal plasticity in children with cochlear implant: converging evidence from EEG and functional near-infrared spectroscopy

Description: The authors assert that over the first years of life, the brain undergoes substantial organization in response to environmental stimulation, and in a silent world it may promote vision by recruiting resources from the auditory cortex and making the visual cortex more efficient. The authors examine 7-18 years old children who either had cochlear implants with delayed or age-appropriate language abilities, or had typical hearing and language.

Discovering invariant spatial features in electron energy loss spectroscopy images on the mesoscopic and atomic levels

Description: Here, the authors develop a machine learning-based approach and workflows for the analysis of spatial structures in 3D EELS data sets using a combination of dimensionality reduction and multichannel rotationally invariant variational autoencoders. This approach is illustrated for the analysis of both the plasmonic phenomena in a system of nanowires and in the core excitations in functional oxides using low loss and core-loss EELS, respectively. The code developed in this manuscript is open sour… more
