Description: From abstract: "Some mechanical properties of uranium joined to uranium by means of sinter welding described. The types of uranium investigated were powdered and cast material. Comparison of results obtained by the testing of the whole and joined material are presented. Although the joined material to date does not possess strength of the whole material, the results are promising. Work is continuing."

Ionium Recovery Plant Design Report: Topical Report

An Ultrasonic System for Testing Isotope Heat Capsules

Description: Introduction: This report describes a program to develop a nondestructive (ultrasonic) tester and testing procedure to perform integrity tests on isotope heat source containers. The increased application of isotope heat sources has brought more attention to the engineering problems encountered during fabrication. One of the most important of these problems is insuring the isotope containment during the long unattended periods of use. To determine the integrity of the heat source container, a nondestructive testing procedure must be adopted to test each heat source after fabrication.

Preliminary Appraisal of the Carnotite Resources of the Carrizo Mountains Area, San Juan County, New Mexico, and Apache County, Arizona

Description: From introduction: A rapid appraisal of the carnotite resources of the Salt Wash sandstone member of the Morrison formation in the Carrizo Mountains area was undertaken by the U. S. Geological Survey late in 1951 in connection with its current project of geologic mapping of the area. Though brief and preliminary, this report provides a summary of production trends and estimated reserves in the area and indicates as far as possible the total potential of the area as a source of uranium. This information may be helpful in planning new milling facilities or other measures to encourage a higher rate of production.

Description: Abstract: "The excellent agreement between measured boundary layer thickness and thickness calculated by Sivells and Payne recommends their method for calculating turbulent boundary layer growth in axisymmetric hypersonic nozzles. It was thought worthwhile to adapt their approach to the laminar boundary layer. This analysis, along with a limited amount of corroborating data, is presented herein."
