Non-Core Dry Hole Drilling at Cove Mesa, Arizona

Description: Abstract: A drilling program was conducted by the Atomic Energy Commission on Cove Mesa, Arizona to further develop uranium and vanadium ore reserves that are vital to the National Defense. The drilling was performed by the Minerals Engineering Company of Grand Junction, Colorado. Uranium and vanadium ore horizons are found in the Salt Wash member of the Morrison formation on Cove Mesa.

Preliminary Reconnaissance of the Dripping Spring Quartzite Formation in Gila and Pinal Counties, Arizona

Description: Abstract: A four-week reconnaissance of certain portions of the mountainous area in Gila and Pinal Counties, Arizona, was undertaken in March and April, 1953, to inspect accessible outcrops of Dripping Spring quartzite, a pre-Cambrian formation which has lately attracted the interest of the Atomic Energy Commission by the discovery of two separate occurrences of uranium mineralization. Although no new deposits were found during the field work, a more thorough examination of the quartzite seems … more

Geology and Mineralization of Hunt's Mesa, Monument Valley, Arizona, Navajo County with Recommendations for Exploration Drilling

Description: Abstract: Hunt's Mesa was examined on June 2 and 3, 1951, by the writer assisted by R. C. Cutter. Two channels were located and studied. Outcrops of the channels are mineralized, the mineralization being of the copper-uranium variety. There are indications that an appreciable quantity of ore can be found by exploration drilling. A program of 25,000 feet of wagon drilling is recommended.

Geology and Ore Deposits of Yazzie Mesa, Apache County, Arizona with Recommendations for Exploration Drilling

Description: Abstract: Yazzie Mesa was examined in May 1951, by the writer, assisted by R. C. Cutter. The mesa shows one main channel deposit and three minor channels. The main channel appears to be a northern extension of a channel deposit being worked by the Vanadium Corporation of America at their Monument No. 2 mine. Two samples taken on the south outcrop of the main channel assayed 0.16% U308 over 4.5 feet and 0.80% U308 over 1 foot. The area is recommended for 10,000 feet of exploration drilling. It i… more

Preliminary Report on Uranium-Bearing Deposits in Mohave County, Arizona

Description: Abstract: Preliminary studies of the Wallapai Mining District and selected properties in the Maynard and Greenwood Mining Districts, Mohave County, Arizona, from January 8 to March 8, 1953, were made to determine the extent of uranium mineralization. All of the uranium properties examined are of the vein type and are believed to be of mesothermal origin. Brecciation and porosity of the veins appear to be controlling factors in the concentration of uranium minerals from the ore-bearing solutions… more

The Distribution of Uranium-Vanadium Deposits in the Colorado Plateau Relative to Tertiary Intrusive Masses

Description: Introduction: Studies of uranium-vanadium occurrences in the Four Corners region show that, with the exception of the Lukachuai area, all of the major deposits in the Morrison formation are grouped around the various igneous masses which are scattered irregularly throughout the Colorado Plateau. The pattern of deposition varies from mountain group to mountain group and each will be described separately. Maps accompany this report to supplement the descriptions of ore occurrences in the vicinity… more

OSHA State Plans: In Brief, with Examples from California and Arizona

Description: This report examines various state plans under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 (OSH Act), which authorizes states to establish their own occupational safety and health plans and preempt standards established and enforced by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). OSHA must approve state plans if they are "at least as effective" as OSHA's standards and enforcement. The report provides specific examples from California and Arizona

National Uranium Resource Evaluation: Mesa Quadrangle, Arizona

Description: From Purpose and Scope: "The Mesa Quadrangle, Arizona (Fig. 1), was evaluated to identify geologic environments and delineate areas that exhibit characteristics favorable for the occurrence of uranium deposits. Favorable environments, as determined by surface and subsurface investigations, are those that could contain uranium deposits of at least 100 tons (90 metric tons) U3O8 with an average grade not less than 100 parts per million (ppm) U3O8."
