Condition Survey: Pease Air Force Base, New Hampshire

Description: "The purpose of this report is to present the results of a condition survey performed at Pease Air Force Base (PAFB), New Hampshire, during 14-18 August 1972. The inspection for effects of frost action was performed on 1 June 1972. The three major areas of interest considered in this condition survey were structural condition of the primary airfield pavements, the condition of pavement repairs and the types of maintenance materials that have been used at this airfield, and any detrimental effects of frost action to the pavement facilities" (p. 1).

National uranium resource evaluation: Glens Falls quadrangle, New York, Vermont and New Hampshire

Description: From Introduction: "The Glens Falls NTMS Quadrangle of New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire (Fig. 1) was evaluated to identify and delineate areas and geologic units that have characteristics favorable for uranium deposits. All geologic environments in the quadrangle were studied by surface methods and, where possible, were inferred to a depth of 1500 m."

Mica-Bearing Pegmatites of New Hampshire: a Preliminary Report

Description: From abstract: Mica has been mined in New Hampshire since 1803. Production from 1908 through 1939 has aggregated 13,326,990 pounds of sheet and punch mica, an annual average of 416,470 pounds. Since 1931 production has been below this average, because of economic conditions rather than depletions. The mica-bearing pegmatites of the Grafton and Keene districts occur mostly in sillimanite-mica schist adjacent to large areas of biotite gneiss. The pegmatite bodies range from a fraction of an inch to more than 200 feet in thickness; most of them are crosscutting, and about 75 percent strike northeast. Mica occurs sporadically in most of them but where present in commercial quantities it is localized in one or more of the following zones: (1) In quartz-plagioclase-muscovite zones 2 to 10 feet from the walls of large pegmatite bodies, (2) in or near quartz masses that occur mostly near the centers of the bodies, (3) in thin dikes 5 to 15 feet thick or in similar offshoots from larger bodies, (4) within large pegmatite bodies, in more or less tabular streaks or zones composed principally of plagioclase, quartz, and muscovite.

Reconnaissance of Radioactive Rocks of Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Southeastern New York

Description: From abstract: In 1948, 7,662 miles of roadside rocks and soils in Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and southeastern New York were traversed with a car-mounted Geiger-Mueller counter. The observed distribution of the abnormally radioactive rocks and soils is limited to certain areas, herein called "radioactive provinces," that are separated from each other by areas of essentially nonradioactive rock.

Portland 1° x 2° NTMS Area, Maine and New Hampshire: Data Release

Description: From abstract: This data release presents preliminary results of ground water, stream sediment, and stream water reconnaissance in the National Topographic Map Series (NTMS) Portland 10 x 20 quadrangle. Stream sediment and stream water samples were collected from small streams at 1094 sites for a nominal density of one site per 13 square kilometers (five square miles) in rural areas. Ground water samples were collected at 560 sites for a nominal density of one site per 26 square kilometers (ten square miles). Neutron activation analysis (NAA) results are given for uranium and 16 other elements in sediments, and for uranium and 9 other elements in ground water and surface water. Field measurements and observations are reported for each site. Analytical data and field measurements are presented in tables and maps. Statistical summaries of data and a brief description of results are given. A generalized geologic map and a summary of the geology of the area are included.

Aeroradioactivity Survey and Areal Geology of Parts of Southeastern New York and Southern New England (ARMS-I)

Description: Report concerning "[a]n airborne gamma-radiation survey of Connecticut, Rhode Island, and parts of New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont" (p. 5) made between 1958 and 1960 that indicated that a broad range of radioactivity exists in those areas depending on the type of bedrock.
