Enhancing the Discovery of Tabletop Games

Description: Collections of three-dimensional materials may not be discoverable to library users if they lack adequate metadata. Discovery of these collections may be enhanced through the application of relevant cataloging standards and con-trolled vocabularies. This paper outlines how librarians at the University of North Texas Libraries used these strategies to increase access to a large collection of tabletop games.

Further Analysis on Solubility Measurement and Thermodynamic Modeling of Benzoic Acid in Monosolvents and Binary Mixtures

Description: Article discussing further analyses of the recent report (by Sandeepa et al.) on the solubility of benzoic acid in six monosolvents (i.e. tributyl phosphate, diacetone alcohol, methyl-n-propyl ketone, methyl acetate, amyl acetate, and isooctane) and five binary systems (i.e. ethanol + hexane, isopropyl alcohol + hexane and chloroform + hexane, acetone + hexane, and acetone + water) along with some numerical analyses. The reported calculations have been reanalyzed based on combined nearly ideal binary solvent/Redlich-Kister, the modified Wilson model, general single model, Jouyban–Acree model and Jouyban–Acree–van’t Hoff model. The investigated models provide good estimation of the solubility behavior of benzoic acid in the binary solvent mixtures at various temperatures.

New mechanism of plasmons specific for spin-polarized nanoparticles

Description: This article experimentally shows that Co nanoparticles with a single-domain crystal structure support a plasmon resonance at approximately 280 nm with better quality than gold nanoparticle resonance in the visible. The magnetic nature of these nanoparticles suggests a new type of these plasmons.

Giant spin Hall effect in two-dimensional monochalcogenides

Description: This article, using calculations from first principles, reveals for the first time giant intrinsic spin Hall conductivities (SHC) in these materials. In particular, the article shows that the SHC resonances can be easily tuned by combination of strain and doping and, in some cases, strain can be used to induce semiconductor to metal transition that makes a giant spin Hall effect possible even in absence of doping.

Managing Sudden Loss

Description: Managers often face tough, emotional situations at work. One of the biggest is guiding employees and departments successfully through the loss of a coworker. Not only are there emotional components but there are also more technical and procedural responsibilities that may be overlooked. These facilities, technological, and human resources tasks need to be handled sensitively and in a timely manner. Remembering whom to contact, what property needs to be considered, and how to produce final paychecks are just a few of the concerns managers will face in a trying time. This guide aims to serve as a checklist of the basic components and tasks managers will face after the sudden loss of an employee.

Rapid Responses to Abiotic Stress: Priming the Landscape for the Signal Transduction Network

Description: This article proposes that a plant's ability to engage in many different metabolic and molecular networks as well as alter stomatal aperture in order to adapt to their environment is mediated through pulses of gene expression that are coordinated throughout the plant in a systemic manner by the ROS/Ca+2 waves.

Developing Evaluation Frameworks for Business Models in China’s Rural Markets

Description: This article draws on case analysis to present two frameworks for evaluating two types of business models, and, through open coding and axial coding on eight Chinese cases, identifies the main components for the evaluation frameworks and critical factors within each component. Using the coding results as a lens, the article applies a cross-case comparative data analysis to establish the multi-level evaluation systems and provides suggestions for entrepreneurs and other stakeholders to better their business model design in China’s rural markets.
