New Hot Laboratory Facilities at Los Alamos

Description: New Hot Laboratory Facilities which support three major research programs directed by the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory of the University of California are described. For the Nuclear Rocket Propulsion Program, a hot cell addition to the Radio Chemistry Building at Los Alamos will be completed early in 1963, and construction is expected to start soon on the hot cell addition to the Maintenance, Assembly and Disassembly Building at the Nuclear Rocket Development Station in Nevada. Integral hot… more

What Has Happened to the Survivors of the Early Los Alamos Nuclear Accidents?

Description: Abstract: Two nuclear accidents involving a plutonium sphere just subcritical in size occurred at the Los Alamos Laboratory, LA-1 in 1945 and LA-2 in 1946. Because remote control devices were deemed unreliable at the time, the tamper material (tungsten carbide bricks in LA-1 and beryllium hemispheres in LA-2) was added by hand with the operator standing next to the assembly. In each case the critical size of the assembly was accidentally exceeded and the resultant exponentially increasing chain… more

New Mexico Geochronology Research Laboratory: Zuni-Bandera volcanic field road log

Description: This field conference was designed to assemble a group of Quaternary researchers to examine the possibility of using the Zuni-Bandera volcanic field in western New Mexico as a test area for evaluating and calibrating various Quaternary dating techniques. The Zuni-Bandera volcanic-field is comprised of a large number of basaltic lava flows ranging in age from about 700 to 3 ka. Older basalts are present in the Mount Taylor volcanic field to the north. Geologic mapping has been completed for a la… more

Does the Arousal System Contribute to Near-Death and Out-of-Body Experiences? A Summary and Response

Description: Article acknowledging the viability and potential value of the hypothesis underlying articles suggesting a relationship between near-death experiences (NDEs) and the body's arousal system, but also identifying substantial weaknesses in both the presented lines of evidence and the studies.

Near-Death Studies and Modern Physics

Description: Article exposing some of the principal problem areas between near-death studies and modern physics, and suggesting a greater collaboration between the two fields. Specific illustrations are given where collaborative effort might be fruitful. The paper also suggests a broader perspective in performing the research, one that places greater emphasis on an otherworldly thrust in future research.

Parallels Between Near-Death Experience Prophetic Visions and Prophecies from the Bible and Mormon Holy Writ

Description: Article discussing a phenomenon identified by Kenneth Ring where some near-death experiencers (NDErs) were permitted to see a picture of the Earth's future as a "prophetic vision" (PV). A comparison of the events of NDE PVs of the Earth's future and prophecies from the Bible and the Mormons' "Doctrine and Covenants" shows nearly complete agreement.

The Physical Environment in the City of Light

Description: Article describing the physical environment found in the other world or the City of Light, based on published accounts of near-death experiences (NDEs). The City of Light appears to be a world of preternatural beauty that cannot be described adequately. NDE accounts provide descriptions of the landscape, animal life, plant life, and architecture found in the other world.

Otherworld Personal Future Revelations in Near-Death Experiences

Description: Article describing a new kind of precognitive vision in the near-death experience (NDE): the otherworld personal future revelation (OPFR). Kenneth Ring previously described two kinds: the personal flashforward and the prophetic vision. The OPFR resembles the personal flashforward in that it previews the experiencer's personal future, but differs from the personal flashforward in that it is delivered to the experiencer by another personage in the otherworld rather than appearing in the visual im… more

GEOLGY, RESISTIVITY, AND HYDROGEOCHEMISTRY OF THE OJO CALIENTE HOT SPRINGS AREA, NORTHERN NEW MEXICO

Description: Geothermal fluids of the Ojo Caliente area discharge from a northeast trending normal fault that juxtaposes Precambrian metarhyolite and Tertiary sediments. An electrical resistivity survey shows that the fluids emerge from the fault and flow as a plume of thermal water into cold aquifers east of the fault. Geochemistry of fluids indicates a maximum reservoir temperature at depth of 80/sup 0/C with no suggestion of high temperature isotopic exchange between water and reservoir rocks. From this … more
