Ground Water for Irrigation in the Viking Basin, West-Central Minnesota

Description: Abstract: The Viking Basin consists of six glacial outwash areas in Douglas, Ottertail, and Todd Counties, west-central Minnesota. Total area is 340 square miles (880 square kilometers). Soils are sandy and excessively well-drained. Crops grown on the outwash would benefit from supplemental irrigation. Irrigation supplies can be obtained from wells in the surface outwash aquifer in significant parts of the large outwash areas near Carlos and Parkers Prairie and the small outwash area near Clotho. Irrigation supplies are unlikely in the outwash areas near Alexandria, Urbank, and Rose City. Major use of ground water for irrigation may lower ground-water levels sufficiently to affect lake and marsh levels and streamflow out of the irrigation areas. Water from the outwash is of excellent chemical quality for irrigation.

Investigation of Waikele Well No. 2401-01, Oahu, Hawaii: Pumping Test, Well Logs and Water Quality

Description: Introduction: A dependable water supply is required for Naval Magazine Lualualei, Waikele Branch. The water supply for Naval Magazine Lualualei, Waikele Branch, Oahu, Hawaii has been dependent on Oahu Sugar Co.'s water for many years. Because the supply of water from Oahu Sugar Co. is not always dependable, in March 1982, the Pacific Division of the Naval Facilities Engineering Command entered into a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Geological Survey to determine the productivity and water quality of an abandonment Navy well. The well, No. 2401-01, is located in Waikele Gulch near the confluence of Waikele and Kipapa Streams (fig. 1.0-1)

Chemical, Physical, and Radiological Quality of Selected Public Water Supplies in Florida, November 1977-February 1978

Description: Abstract: Virtually all treated public water supplies sampled in Florida meet the National Inter-Primary and Proposed Secondary Drinking Water Regulations. These findings are based on a water-quality reconnaissance of 129 treated public supplies throughout the State during the period November 1977 through February 1978. While primary drinking water regulation exceedences were infrequent , lead, selenium, and gross alpha radioactivity in a very few water supplies were above established maximum contaminant levels. Additionally , the secondary drinking water regulation parameters--dissolved solids, chloride, sulfate, iron, color, and pH--were occasionally detected in excess of the proposed Federal regulations. The secondary regulations, however, pertain mainly to the aesthetic quality of drinking water and not directly to public health aspects.

Ground Water in the Northeast Part of Twentynine Palms Marine Corps Base, Bagdad Area, California

Description: Purpose and scope: The U.S. Marine Corps conducts training maneuvers in the study area. Lack of a local source of water has severely limited the utilization of the area. In the past, limited quantities of water have been transported to the area by truck or helicopter. The purpose of this study was to determine the feasibility of obtaining a supply of ground water in the area for use when field maneuvers are being conducted. The major effort for this study was concentrated on the part within the Marine Corps base boundary. The study involved the assessment of ground-water quality, ground water in storage, and aquifer characteristics.
