Novelas Indigenistas Representativas de America

Description: In this thesis have been included six novels of the indigenous type that represent four countries of Latin America: Mexico, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Peru. This type of novel contains elements of social protest, and therefore it is appropriate to examine the problem of the "indio" or (Indian) in relation to the countries where the majority of the population is comprised of "Indians".

Guatemalan obsidian source characterization by thermoluminescence

Description: A program was initiated to study the potential of TL measurements for the characterization of obsidian sources from Guatemala. Research to date was intended to answer three questions: (1) Is there intra-source consistency in TL glow curves. (2) Are the glow curves from each source significantly unique to allow discrimination. (3) Can one match artifact glow curves to source glow curves in cases of known provenance. Results are in agreement with neutron activation analysis. (DLC)

A Study of George Canning's Sustained Campaign for the Recognition of Latin America from 1822-1826

Description: This thesis analyzes George Canning's persuasive campaign to gain British recognition of Latin America. The modification of an exigence capable of change through persuasion was emphasized, and the audiences which had the power to bring about the change were identified. The campaign was broken into seven discernible, but dependent, stages which were examined to test the progress of the campaign. Canning was the prime mover of the campaign, and through a series of petitions, speeches, and press rā€¦ more

Open file data on the Cerro Prieto geothermal field

Description: Some of the unpublished data presently available on open file at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory are listed and described. In addition, in the files are a number of internal memoranda of the Commission Federal de Electricidad of Mexico (CFE) on chemical characteristics of the produced fluids and incrustations; published papers on Cerro Prieto and the geologic setting of the Salton Trough; and data on the hydrogeology of the Mexicali Valley. Energy situation in the Mid-Atlantic region

Description: This report presents a review of the energy situation in the Mid-Atlantic Region. It describes the patterns of energy production, supply and demand by state and compares these to national and regional averages. It presents a picture of existing energy and environmental interactions and a view of potential energy and environmental conflicts. A review of the major issues by energy sector is included as is a description of the existing energy actors and major energy programs for Ohio, West Virginiā€¦ more

Study of the structural control of fluid flow within the Cerro Prieto Geothermal Field, Baja California, Mexico

Description: The Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory and the Comision Federal de Electricidad of Mexico are conducting a joint investigation of the Cerro Prieto Geothermal Field, located approximately 35 km south of Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico, in the Sea of Cortez-Salton Trough. Recent analyses of various geophysical/electrical logs, temperature logs, production and geochemical data and the subsequently developed preliminary model of the structure of the geothermal system and the distribution of geothermal ā€¦ more

Urbanism and Energy in Developing Regions

Description: The pace of urbanization must continue, because in most parts of the world the surplus population in the countryside has nowhere else to go. The world is about 40% urban now and apparently headed for the 80 to 90% share of the total population presently exhibited by the developed countries. Thus, the 1.6 billion urban dwellers in 1978 would become about 3 billion in 1995--if major catastrophes can be avoided. OTEC platform configuration and integration study. Final report

Description: Conceptual designs of ship-type and spar-type platforms for Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) commercial plants are presented. Comparative evaluation of six candidate platform types is made. Design guidelines for sea water, cold water pipe and position control systems are developed. Costs are presented for plants with outputs of 400 MWe (Net) for operational sites of New Orleans, Hawaii, and Brazil.

OTEC platform configuration and integration study. Volume I. Systems engineering and integration. Final report

Description: The economic success of an Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) system is highly dependent on a platform which provides adequate support for the power system, accommodates reliably the cold water pipe, and is most cost effective. The results of a study conducted for the Department of Energy to assess six generic types of platforms to determine the most satisfactory platform for severl potential sites are presented. The six platform configurations are ship, circular barge, semi-submersible, Tuā€¦ more

Geothermal power plants of Mexico and Central America: a technical survey of existing and planned installations

Description: In this report, the fifth in a series describing the geothermal power plants of the world, the countries of Mexico and of Central America are studied. The geothermal plants are located in areas of recent and active volcanism; the resources are of the liquid-dominated type. Details are given about the plants located at Cerro Prieto in Mexico and at Ahuachapan in El Salvador. In both cases, attention is paid to the geologic nature of the fields, the well programs, geofluid characteristics, energyā€¦ more
