Phenomenological aspects of heterotic orbifold models at one loop

Description: We provide a detailed study of the phenomenology of orbifold compactifications of the heterotic string within the context of supergravity effective theories. Our investigation focuses on those models where the soft Lagrangian is dominated by loop contributions to the various soft supersymmetry breaking parameters. Scalar Dark Matter From Theory Space

Description: The scalar dark matter candidate in a prototypical theory space little Higgs model is investigated. We review all details of the model pertinent to a relic density calculation. Scaling of X pinches from 1 MA to 6 MA.

Description: This final report for Project 117863 summarizes progress made toward understanding how X-pinch load designs scale to high currents. The X-pinch load geometry was conceived in 1982 as a method to study the formation and properties of bright x-ray spots in z-pinch plasmas. X-pinch plasmas driven by 0.2 MA currents were found to have source sizes of 1 micron, temperatures >1 keV, lifetimes of 10-100 ps, and densities >0.1 times solid density. Study of the charge radii of the stable lead isotopes

Description: Isotope shifts have been measured of the K/sub ..cap alpha..l/ x-ray lines emitted after photo ionization of /sup 204/Pb, /sup 206/Pb, /sup 207/Pb and /sup 208/Pb samples. The results are compared with theoretical values for delta < r/sup 2/> calculated with a microscopic model. The x-ray shift data are also compared with optical data and the nuclear parameters lambda derived from electron scattering results.

Measurements and modeling of gamma absorbed doses due to releases from a linear proton accelerator: experimental design and preliminary results

Studies of Fragmentation at 100 MeV/A at the Bevalac Low Energy Beam Line

Description: The detector system currently operating at the Bevalac Low Energy Beam Line is discussed. This system consists of a 34 element forward angle hodoscope and an 8 element array of gas-phoswich modules which has both a wide dynamic range and a large geometrical solid angle. Properties of dynamically compacted WIPP salt

Description: Dynamic compaction of mine-run salt is being investigated for the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP), where compacted salt is being considered for repository sealing applications. Description: The D0 muton detector will consist of large area arrays of proportional drift tubes (PDT's). The beam crossing repetition rate together with the trigger processing time will constrain the maximum drift time to be about one microsecond, corresponding to a drift distance of about 5.0 cm. Investigation of the 2p3/2-3d5/2 line emission of Au53+ -- Au69+ for diagnosing high energy density plasmas

Description: Measurements of the L-shell emission of highly charged gold ions were made under controlled laboratory conditions using the SuperEBIT electron beam ion trap, allowing detailed spectral observations of lines from ironlike Au{sup 53+} through neonlike Au{sup 69+}.
