Cyanoethylated Compounds as Additives in Lithium/Lithium Ion Batteries

Description: The power loss of lithium/lithium ion battery cells is significantly reduced, especially at low temperatures, when about 1% by weight of an additive is incorporated in the electrolyte layer of the cells. The usable additives are organic solvent soluble cyanoethylated polysaccharides and poly(vinyl alcohol). The power loss decrease results primarily from the decrease in the charge transfer resistance at the interface between the electrolyte and the cathode.

Method and apparatus for dissipating remanent fields and preserving diamagnetism of ceramic superconductors

Description: A method for dissipating a remanent field, created when a magnetic field is brought into contact with a superconductor, while preserving the diamagnetism of a superconductor comprises the steps of (1) providing a ceramic superconductor; (2) continuously or intermittently generating an AC current to the ceramic superconductor; and (3) gradually decreasing the AC current until the undesired remanent field is dissipated.

Method and Apparatus for Dissipating Remanent Fields and Preserving Diamagnetism of Ceramic Superconductors

Description: A method for dissipating a remanent field, created when a magnetic field is brought into contact with a superconductor, comprising the steps of (1) providing a ceramic superconductor; (2) continuously or intermittently applying an AC current to the ceramic superconductor; (3) gradually removing the AC current until the undesired remanent field is dissipated.

Low Temperature Sorbents for Removal of Sulfur Compounds from Fluid Feed Streams

Description: A sorbent material is provided comprising a material reactive with sulfur, a binder unreactive with sulfur and an inert material, wherein the sorbent absorbs the sulfur at temperatures between 30 and 200 C. Sulfur absorption capacity as high as 22 weight percent has been observed with these materials.

A unique method of neutron flux determination from experimental data

Description: A method is provided for determining the fission heat flux of a prime specimen inserted into a specimen of a test reactor. A pair of thermocouple test specimens are positioned at the same level in the holder and a determination is made of various experimental data including the temperature of the thermocouple test specimens, the temperature of bulk water channels located in the test holder, the gamma scan count ratios for the thermocouple test specimens and the prime specimen, and the thicknesses of the outer clads, the fuel fillers, and the backclad of the thermocouple test specimen. Using this experimental data, the absolute value of the fission heat flux for the thermocouple test specimens and prime specimen can be calculated.

A method of noncontacting ultrasonic process monitoring

Description: A method of monitoring a material during processing comprising the steps of (a) shining a detection light on the surface of a material; (b) generating ultrasonic waves at the surface of the material to cause a change in frequency of the detection light; (c) detecting a change in the frequency of the detection light at the surface of the material; (d) detecting said ultrasonic waves at the surface point of detection of the material; (e) measuring a change in the time elapsed from generating the ultrasonic waves at the surface of the material and return to the surface point of detection of the material, to determine the transit time; and (f) comparing the transit time to predetermined values to determine properties such as, density and the elastic quality of the material.
