Uranium-Bearing Coal in the Central Part of the Great Divide Basin, Sweetwater County, Wyoming

Description: From abstract: Field work leading to this report was done by the U. S. Geological Survey for the Division of Raw Materials of the U. S. Atomic Energy Commission, Nearly 24 townships were mapped in the central part of the Great Divide Basin, Sweetwater County, Wyoming, Fourteen of these townships contain outcrops of uranium-bearing coal. Thirty coal beds were mapped, but only seven of them have uranium-bearing coal reserves as defined in this report.

Airborne Radioactivity Survey of the Red Desert Region, Sweetwater County, Wyoming

Description: From abstract: An airborne radioactivity survey of a selected area in the Red Desert, Sweetwater County, Wyoming, containing outcrops of radioactive lignites and shales of known surface extent and uranium content, was flown on flight lines at three levels, respectively 250, 500, and 1,000 feet above the ground and spaced at one-quarter mile intervals. Measurements from three identical dual-channel radiation detectors were simultaneously recorded to obtain data at various distances from natural radioactive sources of known configuration. The radiation intensity measurements were fully corrected for all extraneous effects and were compiled as profiles of radiation intensity, as an isoradioactivity contour map, and as curves showing the relationship between radiation intensity and distance from the source.

Preliminary Report on Lost Creek Schroeckingerite Area, Sweetwater County, Wyoming

Description: Introduction: This report is a summary of the field work at the Lost Creek schroeckingerite deposit, Sweetwater County, Wyo. from July 1 through November 22, 1952. The objectives of field work at Lost Creek during the report period were to obtain additional data for calculating tonnage and grade and to obtain additional information on the controls and localization of schroeckingerite. In order to accomplish these objectives the Survey continued the exploration by means of trenching, mapped all trench walls (scale 1:120), mapped the exploration area at scales of 1:2400 and 1:9600, and carried on an extensive sampling program.

Lost Creek (Wamsutter) Schroeckingerite Deposit, Sweetwater County, Wyoming

Description: Summary: The Lost Creek schroeckingerite deposit in Sweetwater County, Wyo., has attracted attention in the past both as an occurrence of comparatively rare minerals and more recently as a possible source of uranium ore. During the summer of 1948 a newly-formed company by the name of Uranium, Inc., explored part of the deposit by bulldozer trenching and drilling. under the technical direction of the Minerals Engineering Company of Grand Junction, Colo. Examination of the significant exposures of the schroeckingerite deposit indicated that the uraniferous beds are discontinuous and that their areal distribution is erratic. The overburden has an average thickness of 2.5 feet.

Integration of the geological/engineering model with production performance for Patrick Draw Field, Wyoming

Description: The NIPER Reservoir Assessment and Characterization Research Program incorporates elements of the near-term, mid-term and long-term objectives of the National Energy Strategy-Advanced Oil Recovery Program. The interdisciplinary NIPER team focuses on barrier island reservoirs, a high priority class of reservoirs, that contains large amounts of remaining oil in place located in mature fields with a high number of shut-in and abandoned wells. The project objectives are to: (1) identify heterogeneities that influence the movement and trapping of reservoir fluids in two examples of shoreline barrier reservoirs (Patrick Draw Field, WY and Bell Creek Field, MT); (2) develop geological and engineering reservoir characterization methods to quantify reservoir architecture and predict mobile oil saturation distribution for application of targeted infill drilling and enhanced oil recovery (EOR) processes; and (3) summarize reservoir and production characteristics of shoreline barrier reservoirs to determine similarities and differences. The major findings of the research include: (1) hydrogeochemical analytical techniques were demonstrated to be an inexpensive reservoir characterization tool that provides information on reservoir architecture and compartmentalization; (2) the formation water salinity in Patrick Draw Field varies widely across the field and can result in a 5 to 12% error in saturation values calculated from wireline logs if the salinity variations and corresponding resistivity values are not accounted for; and (3) an analysis of the enhanced oil recovery (EOR) potential of Patrick Draw Field indicates that CO[sub 2] flooding in the Monell Unit and horizontal drilling in the Arch Unit are potential methods to recover additional oil from the field.
