Effect of machining damage on tensile properties of beryllium

Cryoforming evaluation using gold-5% copper

Description: This report deals with gold-5 percent copper, which exhibited serious instability even in its higher strength states. The uniaxial specimens in this investigation make such instabilities appear even worse. The major effect of higher strain rates and lower forming temperatures was to extend the homogeneous deformation range, which generally allowed higher attainable strengths. Laser light absorption due to self-generated magnetic fields

Description: It is shown that even normally incident laser light will be resonantly absorbed near the critical density surface when there are self-generated DC magnetic fields. Theoretical estimates for the coupling mechanism, saturation amplitudes, and absorption are given and tested in computer simulations for parameters characteristic of some recent laser-plasma experiments.

Investigation of fracture in pressurized gas metal arc welded beryllium

Description: Premature failures during proof testing of pressurized-gas-metal-arc (PGMA) welded beryllium assemblies were investigated. The failures were almost entirely within the beryllium (a forming grade, similar to HP-10 or S-240), close to and parallel to the weld interface.
