Calculated hadronic transmission through iron absorbers

Description: The transmission of hadrons through iron absorbers is investigated for a variety of experimental configurations, and incident particle types (protons, and charged pions) and energies (0.8 GeV/c to 100 GeV). The results obtained are consistent with available experimental data.

Meson-Mass Measurements II - On the Measurement of the Masses of Charged Pions

Description: This paper describes the method developed and the results obtained in an extensive program of measurement of the masses of charged pions. Measurements were made of the total ranges in nuclear track emulsion and the momenta (obtained from the curving of the particle trajectory in the magnetic field of the 184-inch cyclotron) of pions and protons of nearly the same velocity.

CHARGE-EXCHANGE SCATTERING OF NEGATIVE PIONS BY HYDROGEN AT 230,260, 290, 317 AND 371 MeV

Description: The differential cross section for charge-exchange scattering of negative pions by hydrogen has been observed at 230, 260, 290, 317, and 371 Mev. The reaction was observed by detecting one gamma ray from the {pi}{sup 0} decay with a scintillation-counter telescope.

Production of Neutral Photopions as a Function of Atomic Weight

Description: Thesis discussing the relative yield of neutral pions from elements in a reaction "as a function of the quantum-limit energy (the maximum energy of the quanta in the bremsstrahlung beam) of the Berkeley synchrotron." Interpretation of the results leads to values for the mean free path for absorption of the neutral pions in nuclear matter.

Calculations Related to the Application of Neutrons, Protons, Negatively Charged Pions, and Heavy Ions in Cancer Radiotherapy

Description: From grantees conference on instrumentation technology; Washington, District of Columbia, USA (26 Sep 1973). The most significant aspects of the research conducted during the period from September 1, 1972 to August 31, 1973 on the comparative study of the use of photons, neutrons, protons, negatively charged pions, and heavy ions in cancer radiotherapy are reviewed. The survival of cultured cells was used as the test criteria. Calculations were made of radiation dose distributions in tissue-equ… more

NN. -->. NN. pi. : the new frontier in nucleon-nucleon interactions

Description: The torch in nucleon-nucleon scattering has been passed to experimental and theoretical studies of pion production. Comparing two unitary models shows that most of the structures predicted for spin observables in NN ..-->.. NN..pi.. are model independent and roughly in agreement with the data. The contribution of rho- exchange is small, indicating the reaction is largely ''peripheral''. The energy dependence of these isobar models is smooth. The largely unstudied reactions producing neutral and… more

Evidence For The Angular Distribution of Negative Pions Produced in n-n Collisions

Description: The angular distribution of charged pions from 100 = 30 Mev neutron bombardment of C12 and Be9 has been measured. These data may be used to infer, by subtraction, the identity, within limits, of the [formula] and [formula] angular distributions.

Spectator-velocity pions from heavy ions

Description: The discussion centers on pions in the velocity regions of target and projectile, where strong spectral features appear. The topics covered include stopped-pion studies, and convoy pions in the projectile frame. (GHT)
