Time resolution performance studies of contemporary high speed photomultipliers

Description: The time resolution capabilities of prototype microchannel plate and static crossed-field photomultipliers have been investigated. Measurements were made of electron transit time, rise time, time response, single photoelectron time spread and multiphotoelectron time spread for LEP HR350 proximity focused high gain curved microchannel plate and VPM-154A/1.6L static crossed-field photomultipliers. Three-dimensional thermal analysis of a baseline spent fuel repository

Description: A three-dimensional thermal analysis has been performed using finite difference techniques to determine the near-field response of a baseline spent fuel repository in a deep geologic salt medium. Description: Effort is reported on measurement technique development to assess the utility of Deep-Level Transient Spectroscopy (DLTS) methods in characterizing polycrystalline silicon that was deliberately doped with Ti during growth. Application of digital image analysis techniques to the Geyser's data and topography

Description: This paper describes the results of digital image analysis and techniques applied to acoustic sounder data and topographic relief in the Geyser's region. Total cross sections and elastic scattering at the SSC

Description: The need is discussed of a special purpose detector for the measurement of elastic scattering at the SSC. The detector would cover as small a solid angle as is practical. Two techniques are described briefly to measure total cross sections at hadron storage rings. The direct method is to measure the interaction rate in an IR of known luminosity - a method that gets more difficult increasing energy. A second method is to use the optical theorem. 6 refs., 1 fig. First measurement of the left-right cross section asymmetry in Z boson production at E{sub cm} = 91.5 GeV

Description: The left-right cross section asymmetry for Z boson production in e{sup +} e{sup {minus}} annihilation (A{sub LR}) is being measured at E{sub cm} 91.5 GeV with the SLD detector at the SLAC Linear Collider (SLC) using a longitudinally polarized electron beam. The electron polarization is continually monitored with a Compton scattering polarimeter, and is typically 22%. At the current time, we have accumulated a sample of 4779 Z events. Lot No. 2 of Frit 202 for DWPF cold runs

Description: In the DWPF (Defense Waste Processing Facility), glass forming chemicals will be added to the waste in the form of premelted glass frit. Description: I review the current determinations of {alpha}{sub s}. Attention is given to the theoretical uncertainties inherent in most determinations. all current determinations are consistent with an average of {alpha}{sub s}(M{sub Z}) = 0.119{plus_minus}0.005. Prospects for reduction of the errors in the future are discussed.

Radiative divertor modeling studies

Description: A two-dimensional fluid code called UEDGE is used to simulate the edge plasma in tokamak divertors and to evaluate methods for reducing the heat load on divertor plates by radiating some of the power before it reaches the plates. Measurement of source tube radial position in cast EMC testbeam module

Description: Using a {sup 137}Cs source we have determined the position of two of the source tubes embedded in the Pb absorber in the cast EMC module used in the Fermilab test beam. Two scintillator tiles placed in the gaps on both sides of an absorber containing a source tube were readout into independent phototubes. 17-keV x-ray output of plutonium

Description: In the production of plutonium in a reactor, plutonium-238, 240, and 241 are formed as well as Pu{sup 239}. It is well known that the specific alpha activity of the plutonium varies as the percentages of these isotopes are changed. Kinderman, et al have worked out the relationship between isotopic content and MWD/ton exposure. Their findings are reported in this document.

Three-group NPR core flux levels

Description: In order to predict graphite damage rates for the NPE, it is necessary to have some knowledge of the neutron fluxes at various energy levels. In particular it is important to know flux levels relative to those existing where graphite samples have been irradiated experimentally. Computational Analysis of Coriant and PNNL Radioxenon Data Viewers

Simulations of a stretching bar using a plasticity model from the shear transformation zone theory

Description: An Eulerian simulation is developed to study an elastoplastic model of amorphous materials that is based upon the shear transformation zone theory developed by Langer and coworkers. In this theory, plastic deformation is controlled by an effective temperature that measures the amount of configurational disorder in the material.
