Morse Monte Carlo Radiation Transport Code System

Description: The report contains sections containing descriptions of the MORSE and PICTURE codes, input descriptions, sample problems, deviations of the physical equations and explanations of the various error messages. The MORSE code is a multipurpose neutron and gamma-ray transport Monte Carlo code. Time dependence for both shielding and criticality problems is provided. General three-dimensional geometry may be used with an albedo option available at any material surface. The PICTURE code provide aid in … more

The use of electronic calculators in a basic mathematics course for college students

Description: The problem with which this investigation was concerned was that of the determining relationships between attitude and between achievement of students in those classes in college basic mathematics which utilized electronic calculators during class sessions and students in those classes which did not utilize electronic calculators.

The differential impact of several teaching strategies upon the integration of economic concepts into the mathematics curriculum

Description: This investigation focuses upon two major problems. The first problem is to determine what effect the inclusion of economics in the mathematics curriculum will have upon student attitudes toward and understanding and retention of economics and mathematics. The second problem is to determine whether different methods of instruction will result in significantly different levels of student attitudes toward and understanding and retention of economics and mathematics.

User's guide to program PF for permanent file archiving and retrieval. [CNDENSE purges specified tape files and consolidates those remaining, for CDC 7600 computer]

Description: Program PF provides a method for a 7600 user to copy his disk files to magnetic tape(s). When at a later time the user wishes to attach a disk file which has been purged, program PF will retrieve the file from an archive tape and catalog it on disk. A disk file called ARCHIVEDIRECTORY, which contains information about each file, is maintained by PF. The program CNDENSE, which purges specified files from user archive tapes and consolidates the remaining ones, is also briefly described. (RWR)

Data formats and procedures for the Evaluated Nuclear Data File, ENDF

Description: This report describes the philosophy of the Evaluated Nuclear Data File (ENDF) and the data formats and procedures that have been developed for it. The ENDF system was designed for the storage and retrieval of the evaluated nuclear data that are required for neutronics, photonics and decay heat calculations. This system is composed of several parts that include a series of data processing codes and neutron and photon cross section nuclear structure libraries.

Search for backwards produced exotic meson resonances and study of particle spectra and mass distributions in the reaction. pi. /sup +/ + P. -->. n (forward) + X/sup + +/ at 8. 4 GeV/c. [Upper limits, G parity, 8. 4 GeV/c]

Description: Results are reported from a hybrid experiment designed to search for backwards produced I = 2 exotic meson resonances by investigating the backward scattering reactions: ..pi../sup +/ + p ..-->.. in (forward) + ..pi../sup +/..pi../sup +/, ..pi../sup +/..pi../sup +/..pi../sup +/..pi../sup -/, ..pi../sup +/..pi../sup +/..pi../sup +/..pi../sup +/..pi../sup -/..pi../sup -/, and p anti p..pi../sup +/..pi../sup +/ at an incident pion momentum of 8.4 GeV/c. Operational accidents and radiation exposure experience within the United States Atomic Energy Commission, 1943--1975. [AEC health and safety during first 32 years]

Description: The occupational injury and fatality experience during 32 years of the development of the atomic energy industry under the direction of the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) and its predecessor, the Manhattan Engineering District, is reviewed. Data are included on the cause of all accidents, including fires and transportation accidents, and the cost of AEC property damage. Fatalities of AEC and contractor personnel from all causes during the 32-year period totaled 321, of which 184 occurred in con… more

Improved techniques for the analysis of experiments with polarized targets. [1 to 2 GeV/c, polarization]

Description: An experiment was performed at the Bevatron to measure the polarization in the reaction ..pi../sup -/p ..-->.. ..pi../sup 0/n from a polarized target, at beam momenta between 1 and 2 GeV/c. Concentration is placed on the original aspects of our analysis, in particular: the geometrical reconstruction of the elastic events; the use of the high analyzing power of the reaction studied to probe the polarization of the target in magnitude and distribution; a study of the statistical estimation of the… more

Study of the neutral meson spectrum near 1000 MeV

Description: The nonstrange neutral meson spectrum from 0.75 to 1.23 GeV/c was studied in the reaction negative pion plus proton goes to neutron plus missing mass at incident beam momenta of 1.98 and 2.41 GeV/c. Neutrons produced by beam interactions in the liquid hydrogen target were detected in the near forward direction in an array of plastic scintillation counters. The missing mass of the remaining particles produced in the final state was determined by a measurement of the neutron time-of-flight. In th… more

STATEFIT: a computer program to facilitate the interpretation of spectroscopic data. [FORTRAN IV for IBM 370/195]

Description: STATEFIT is a program written in Fortran IV for the IBM 370/195 computer to facilitate the interpretation of spectroscopic data. A list containing all the experimentally determined ..gamma..-ray energies, their relative intensities, the uncertainties in each, and when known, the total internal conversion coefficients is supplied as input. A preliminary partial decay scheme is assumed to already exist, and a second list specifying those ..gamma.. rays representing transitions between members of … more
