The Effectiveness of a Structured Mathematics Program with Culturally Deprived Kindergarten Children

Description: This study is limited to the mathematics performance of two intact groups of culturally deprived kindergarten students, mostly blacks, with a few whites and Mexican-Americans, who were enrolled at Robert E. Lee Elementary School (Denton, Texas) for the entire school year of 1970-1971. The purposes of the study are to compare the effectiveness of two methods of teaching mathematics to culturally disadvantaged children and to check for interaction of treatments when these children are classified… more

Flexible cubic spline interpolation

Description: This report describes a simple, efficient, and flexible program for cubic spline interpolation in one dimension, suitable for inclusion in the ANL Subroutine Library and in an interactive timesharing system. Most of the cubic spline programs already available either restrict the boundary conditions to knowledge of the first derivative at both end points, or require the second derivatives to vanish at these points. The program described here removes these restrictions and enables the user to ado… more

PIPING & EQUIPMENT ELECTRICAL HEATING CONTROL SYSTEM

Description: All sodium piping and equipment is heat traced to maintain the sodium in a liquid state. The Pipe and Equipment Electrical Heating Control System controls the rate of heat application to sodium piping and equipment during heatup of empty systems prior to filling with sodium and to maintain heat in operating sodium systems. The Pipe and Equipment Electric Heating Control System is designed to aid in detecting malfunctions and failures within the system. The Control portion except for the control… more

SPEAKEASY HELP documents

Description: The HELP documents provide SPEAKEASY users with concise definitions of most of the words available in the current processors. In this report, the documents are given in a variety of formats to enable one to find specific information quickly. The bulk of this report consists of computer read-out of the HELP library via SPEAKEASY.

SPEAKEASY-3: the SPEAKEASY system

Description: SPEAKEASY has continued to evolve and grow in power. The current production versions, referred to as SPEAKEASY-3, contain many features that have not been formally documented. The needed documentation for the most important of these features is provided in this report. Individual new words that are now available are explained and illustrated in accompanying sample runs. Because of the growing use of the language in interactive situations, emphasis is placed on explaining facilities oriented to … more

An Analysis of the Mathematics Necessary for a Course in Research Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences

Description: This study attempted to determine the specific mathematics necessary to a student in a beginning course in behavioral science research statistics. To determine the most desirable form for a review of mathematics prior to a research statistics course,, it was first necessary to determine the following: (1) the specific overall content of such a course, (2) the specific mathematics topics of such a course, and (3) the specific mathematics operations utilized in such a course. The study consisted … more

Part I. Theory report for CREEP-PLAST computer program: analysis of two- dimensional problems under simultaneous creep and plasticity

Description: >Solution of the combined creep and plasticity problem is considered. Both creep theories, the equation-of-state and memory theories, are used within the framework of the finite-element computatioral method. Because of the limited creep data, which is available only for single-step simple extension experiments, the integral expansion in the memory theory formulation is limited to one nonlinear superposition integral. However, instead of using direct superposition as proposed earlier, the ker… more
