The Selection and Function of School Attorneys in Texas Public Schools

Description: The problem of this study was an investigation of the functions of school attorneys in selected Texas public schools and the methods by which they were selected, as perceived by the school superintendents. The purposes of this study were to determine the extent to which Texas public school districts utilized school attorneys, the procedures used by school districts in employing school attorneys, the functions of school attorneys, and the ideal relationship between the school attorney and the school district.

How a City Family Managed a Farm

Description: "This bulletin is a record of the experience of a city family that moved onto a farm in 1892. The father had been a lawyer by profession, the manager for a well-established business firm in one of the principal cities of the Middle West, and was earning a salary of $3,000 a year. At 60 years of age, having been in business about twenty-five years, he was compelled on account of ill health to abandon his profession and business.... The family decided to buy a farm and attempt to solve the problem confronting them, namely, 'to make a living, educate the children, and make a pleasant home.' This paper will how they satisfactorily solved the problem.... An attempt will be made to present such facts about this farm as will enable the reader to comprehend under what conditions and by what means the results were accomplished; hence, a description of the farm and the methods of operating it will be given in some detail." -- p. 5

The Effects of Content and Layout Variation in Newspaper Advertising for Legal Services

Description: The focus of this investigation is on the effects that content and layout forms of newspaper advertising have on consumer attitudes toward the legal profession. A second major purpose of the study was to determine the differences which exist between certain socio-demographic categories with respect to attitude towards the advertised lawyer and the legal advertisements. Thirteen variations of a legal advertisement for the newspaper medium were developed and shown to consumers and then tested by measuring consumers' attitudes toward twelve lawyer-related attributes and ten advertisement-related attributes.

A Tuscan Lawyer, His Farms and His Family: The Ledger of Andrea di Gherardo Casoli, 1387-1412

Description: This is a study of a ledger written by Andrea di Gherardo Casoli between the years 1387 and 1412. Andrea was a lawyer in the Tuscan city of Arezzo, shortly after the city lost its sovereignty to the expanding Florentine state. While Andrea associated his identity with his legal practice, he engaged in many other, diverse enterprises, such as wine making, livestock commerce, and agricultural management. This thesis systematically examines each major facet of Andrea's life, with a detailed assessment of his involvement in rural commerce. Andrea's actions revolved around a central theme of maintaining and expanding the fortunes, both financial and social, of the Casoli family.
