Diseases of Sheep

Description: "Infectious and noninfectious diseases and common ailments of sheep in America are considered in this bulletin. It does not deal with diseases caused by animal parasites, such as gid, grub in the head, stomach, lung, and intestinal-worm affections, liver rot, scabies, etc., nor with plant poisoning. These diseases are described in other publications of the Department of Agriculture. The aim has been to give only the more important of characteristic symptoms which would be of value in distinguishing one disease from another.... Methods of treatment are outlined with regard to ease of application and the use of remedies which are both effective and easily procured." -- p. 39

Whatever may be the prevalence of nystagmus in the United States, its seriousness as a disease and the need of national and State agencies cooperating in endeavors to obtain exact information regarding it are deemed sufficient reasons for the publication of Mr. Hoffman's interesting and suggestive paper.

Status of the Ebola Outbreak in West Africa: Overview and Issues for Congress

Description: This report discusses ongoing efforts to control Ebola in West Africa, analyzes persistent challenges in fighting the spread of the disease, and tracks Ebola emergency funds. The 2014-2015 outbreak and spread of Ebola Virus Disease in West Africa became an international public health emergency that, in no small part due to international intervention, abated significantly by the end of 2015 and early 2016. The issue remains of interest toward the end of the 114th Congress for a number of reasons, including ongoing concerns about the status of disease and risks of future outbreaks, and interest in the disposition of funds appropriated by Congress in response to Ebola, especially in view of the more recent health challenge posed by the Zika virus.

The Treatment of Bee Diseases

Description: "The diseases which attack the honey bee may be divided into two classes, namely, those affecting the brood and those to which the adult bees are subject. The diseases of adult bees have not been investigated sufficiently to make it possible at the present time to recommend methods for their treatment. In the present bulletin, therefore, only a brief statement concerning these diseases will be made, mainly for the purpose of indicating the present state of knowledge on these subjects. Concerning the diseases of the brood more is known, and this is particularly fortunate since they are far more destructive in American apiaries than are the diseases of the adult bees.... The aim of this bulletin is to give information that can be used by the practical beekeeper in combating bee diseases." -- p. 5
