P Division monthly report, January 1950

Description: This progress report discusses the activities of the P Division for the month of January 1950. The B, D, F and H pilan operated throughout the month except for outages listed under Area Activities. Power levels were as follow: B pile -- 275 megawatts (MW) D pile -- 305 MW, F pile -- 275 MW increased to 305 MW during the month, and H pile -- 275 MW increased to 330 MW during the month. The piles operated with a time operated'' efficiency of 88.8%. A total of 53.07 tons of metal at an average of … more

P Division monthly report, September 1949

Description: This progress report discusses the activities of the P Division for the month of September, 1949. The B and F piles operated at 275 megawatts (MW) and the D pile at 305 MW throughout the month except for cutages listed under Area Activities. A total of 60.22 tons of metal, at an average concentration of 396 megawatt days/ton (MWD/ton) was discharged from the piles during the month. The 105-H Building was accepted from the Construction Division on September 28 with certain exceptions noted under… more

A review of the philosophy and future use of the Ball-3X system in the IPD reactors

Description: Distortion of the graphite stacks of the Hanford IPD reactors due to neutron irradiation effects has grown to where major corrective or compensatory action must be taken to preserve the operability of the safety control systems and life of the reactors. For the past few years, the line has been satisfactorily held by an aggressive maintenance program and short-range solutions. However, longer range, more permanent solutions are needed and high priority is being given to studies toward these end… more

Reactivity balance and associated reactor physics data, December 1964

Description: Data in this report are significant to Pile Physics calculations and are submitted by the Area Physicists at the respective reactors. Reactivity in non-uranium charges and in radial and spike enrichment is calculated either by one-group diffusion theory as described in HW-60439, or by the simpler flux-squared weighting method. The former method provides a more accurate evaluation for larger enrichment inventories; the latter method is sufficient for radial enrichment of less than about 0.25 per… more

Hydraulic and Heat Transfer Transients During Power Ramp - Mark VII-AL Tests at Columbia University

Description: Transient tests were run at Columbia University on a Mark VII-AL mockup to reproduce the hydraulics and heat transfer in a single fuel assembly during a power ramp resulting from the accidental withdrawal of control rods from a reactor. This document presents results of those tests.

FY2012 Summary of Tasks Completed on Proteus-Thermal Work.

Description: PROTEUS is a suite of the neutronics codes, both old and new, that can be used within the SHARP codes being developed under the NEAMS program. Discussion here is focused on updates and verification and validation activities of the SHARP neutronics code, DeCART, for application to thermal reactor analysis. As part of the development of SHARP tools, the different versions of the DeCART code created for PWR, BWR, and VHTR analysis were integrated. Verification and validation tests for the integrat… more
